No loggning during crashes

We have servers that are crashing quite often, but it's very hard to diagnose why because neither the normal log, sasl log or syslog reports anything! The only way we see that it has been a crash is trough apport.log. Is there any way for us to track down these issues better?

And what is in apport.log? Also, syslog?

My question was what is in the file, and /var/log/syslog.

The stack trace suggest it may be OpenSSL (crypto Erlang module) induced.

Can you try 17.1 and the most recent OpenSSL patch release ?
