Good morning,

I am having an issue upgrading 2 of the 3 nodes on my RabbitMQ 3.12.8 to 3.13.6 Clusters.

Background:
Node 1 “main” cluster RabbitMQ 3.12.8 Windows 11

Node 2 cluster RabbitMQ 3.12.8 Windows 10

Node 3 cluster RabbitMQ 3.12.8 Windows 10

Each node when I launch the RabbitMQ website, I can see all 3 clusters and there are all working properly

I upgrade Node 1 from RabbitMQ 3.12.8 to 3.13.6 and Erlang 26.2.5.2, successful and the 2 other nodes in the Cluster are all in the green in the RabbitMQ website. However there are Feature Flags that are disabled:

I try to enable them and I can’t…

I then upgrade Node 2 to RabbitMQ 3.13.6 but it fails

I then upgrade Node 3 to RabbitMQ 3.13.6 but it fails:

Both fail with this error:

Is there any documentation on upgrading clusters?
Do I need to turn off the RabbitMQ Service on all 3 nodes when doing upgrades?

Thank you,

  • Morning all,

I also then installed 3.12.8 on each of the 3 nodes and followed the upgrade info from:
    https://www.rabbitmq.com/docs/upgrade

    and these steps:
    For each node
    • stop the node
    • upgrade RabbitMQ and, if applicable, Erlang
    • start the node
    • watch monitoring and health check data to assess the health and recovery of the upgraded node and cluster
  • Once all nodes are upgraded, enable feature flags introduced in the new version

I am presuming stop the node is to run the RabbitMQ sbin dir cmd prompt and run “rabbitmqctl.bat stop_app” ?

Again the 1st Node upgraded without any issues, but Node 2 and Node 3 failed…
it seems to be stuck in “is booting”

I got the error:

Thanks,

Steven

ps. I have found some documentation from https://myadventuresincoding.wordpress.com/2021/05/13/rabbitmq-how-to-do-a-rolling-upgrade-in-a-cluster-version-3-8/
that states if Erlang needs to be updated (different version) you actually have to uninstall erlang and RabbitMQ and install erlang and RabbitMQ and for the 2 other nodes you need to rejoin the cluster??
