The Messages count is shown as NaN in my RabbitMQ Dashboard. Does that mean the queue is faulty? What could be the reason for it? How to fix it?

Hello,

It is most likely due to a bug in the management plugin stats collection and not due to a fault of the queue itself.

Which version of RabbitMQ are you using? The newly release 3.6.7 version has a re-written management plugin which is likely to have addressed this.

Cheers
Karl

That queue's Erlang process had to terminate or something similar. That's very little information
to work with. See server logs and consider upgrading to 3.6.7, which has a new management plugin.

In 3.6.7 and master, NaN can also mean that no stats were emitted yet but it only lasts
for one or two stats emission intervals, so 5-10 seconds by default.

I am using RabbitMQ version 3.6.5 with Erlang 17.0. Does this version has the below mentioned bug?

We don't know what "the bug" is because you've provided only a single screenshot.

3.6.5 isn't getting any more updates. Please upgrade to 3.6.7.

If you the clock '+/-' button right from queues table, you can enable more info fields for queues. One of them is `state`, which will show if queue is 'runing', in 'flow', 'idle' or 'down'.

The state field is already enabled however if you will see in the snapshot it shows blank for the state under this queue.

My bad, missed the field at first look. This seems like management API thing.
If you can run rabbitmqctl, you can check the queue status using `rabbitmqctl list_queues name state`

In case this situation in management UI persists, you can try to reset the management database as described here and wait until management data is collected again.

Just ran the rabbitmqctl commamd :
./rabbitmqctl list_queues name memory messages state

and getting this as the output for the queue:

Auto-Deploy-Action-NONPROD      14088   0       running

So that means queue is running properly however management plugin is not able to display it properly. Is there a way we can fix it temporarily without an upgrade to 3.6.7?

Restart stats DB, disable and re-enable the plugin.

We've continued to see this issue periodically, most recently on version 3.6.12 (latest as of this post). None of the solutions mentioned here fixed the issue for us, we had to use the delete_crashed call to finally remove them.

Am also seeing this problem (on RabbitMQ 3.6.10, Erlang 19.3)

- Message counts from rabbitmqctl works (showing reasonable numbers) but not in the management interface.
- Restarting stats doesn't remove the problem.
- Disable/enable the management plugin doesn't remove the problem.

1. Full cluster restart
if that doesn't do it:
2. Upgrade to 3.7.X
