Hi Experts,

I am now at the next level of upgrading my system from RabbitMQ 3.6.10 to 3.8.2.

In my system we are currently using following java binaries version.

1. amqp-client-3.4.2
2. spring-amqp-1.6.7.RELEASE

Can you please confirm, if the version of java binaries which I am using are compatible with 3.8.2 version.

Spring AMQP 1.6.x has not been supported for years; 1.6.7 is over 3 years old; at the very least, you should upgrade to 1.7.14; it uses amqp-client 4.0.3.

The current release is 2.2.3.

This is just from a Spring perspective; I cannot comment on client/broker compatibility.

Thanks Gary for the clarification.

If anyone else can provide additional details around this. What will be the minimum requirement for 3.8.2 version.

Though with all due respect, details provides by Gary are indicative but if more clear details will be available then it will be easy to make appropriate decision.

Thanks in advance.

There is no compatibility problem between the broker and the client
versions you're using (with or without upgrading), the AMQP 0-9-1
protocol and its support has been stable for years.

As suggested by Gary, upgrade at least to Spring AMQP 1.7.14. This is
the bare minimum, to maybe smoothen the upgrade path. Nevertheless,
you'll still be behind in terms of features and bug fixes, at least
for the Java client.

Upgrading directly to Spring AMQP 2.2.3 would be better though.

Thanks Arnaud & Gary for your response.

This is also a separate planned activity in my bucket list. The intent of that activity is to upgrade Spring completely to 5.2.1 version along with its dependent jars. So, will take care of this along with that activity. So, I think there should be no problem in upgrading only RabbitMQ broker to 3.8.2 version for now.
