The cold is what I dislike the most, but it's the idea of the whole
world covered in white that creates in me such negative reactions,
even at the height of summer. As romantic as it is to walk in a
snowfall and watch the surroundings be purified and hidden by a
virginal veil, especially for a person of such a melancholic and
nostalgic temperament as myself, the few moments of catharsis do not
and cannot make up for three or four months spent effectively taken
prisoner by the natural elements.
Somehow, in comparison, the damp, windy, stormy weather of late autumn
doesn't seem nearly as bad. The darkness is still bearable, whereas at
the highest point of winter the depression is only accentuated by the
fact that it gets dark by 3pm, barely past waking up time for some of
us.
Global warming is a good, good thing, even though I might well be dead
before it ever gets here. Thank you, Mr.Bush.
