Salam Sejahtera dan Salam 1 Malaysia

Dear Prof/Assoc. Prof/ Dr/Researcher/Student,

We are welcoming a visiting Professor, Prof. Dr. Stefan Wuertz, to the Institute of Environmental and Water Resource Management (IPASA) this 8th of December 2014 (Monday). In conjunction with Prof Wuertz's visit to IPASA, you are cordially invited to attend a talk to be delivered by him which will be held as follows:

Topic : Understanding Microbial Communities in Used Water Treatment - Can We Predict Process Performance?

Speaker : Prof Dr. Stefan Wuertz (Visiting Professor)

Date : 8th December 2014 (Monday)

Time : 2.30 - 4.30 pm

Venue : Bilik Seminar 3, V01, Faculty of Bioscience and Medical Engineering (FBME), UTM

Dr. Stefan Wuertz is a Professor of Environmental Engineering at University of California, Davis, as well as a Visiting Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Research Director of the Environmental Engineering Cluster in the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences at the University of Massachusetts and Dr. habilitatus in Environmental Biotechnology at Technical University of Munich, Germany. In addition, he conducted postdoctoral work in Molecular Genetics at the Flemish Institute for Technology in Belgium. Dr. Wuertz?s research interests span the interface of environmental microbiology and engineering. He specializes in biofilm systems, the use of molecular tools to describe microbial communities and biological processes in bioreactors, and developing methodology to detect low-level pathogens in the environment combined with microbial source tracking and microbial risk assessment. He has been an editor of the international journal Water Research, the top ranked journal in Water Resources, since 2003 and has written over 100 peer-reviewed journal and other scientific publications. Most recently, he served as editor for Water Research special issues focusing on Identifying Sources of Microbial Contamination (2007), Cross-validation of Methods for the Detection and Quantification of Microbial Pathogens and Indicators of Fecal Pollution (2009), and Shifting Paradigms in Recreational Water Quality Assessment (2010), as well as a dedicated journal issue to the SIPP Microbial Source Tracking validation study in California (2013).

Both staff and students are welcome to attend the talk. We look forward to seeing you there this Monday.

Many thanks
