Bucky used to say that we already live like kings, a lot of us, way
more than, in earlier ages, could have been anticipated, at least by
the 99%. For example, look how many palaces may be crammed together
along a winding set of loops, overlooking Bodega Bay or one of those.

Sleek gray beach houses with sprawling floor plans.

Architects had a new set of concepts to play with, thanks to Frank
Lloyd Wright and a whole movement. I'd say Zen was an influence, in
how to blend with the environment, and this is California after all.

However it takes a lot of horsepower to drive everywhere. The kings
are in close proximity, but the alliances, the division of labor, the
planning among them, has not occurred. These are not partners in an
enterprise so much as semi-autonomous neighbors. You're each living
in a parallel dominion, with its own gigantic economy, sprawled out
across the land.

Trucks ply the roads everywhere, the canal boats of of Pavement World.

I'm only in such a palace because some are not occupied but are rather
rented out and managed on a time share basis. Rather then this being
a vacation in a time share agreement, this is company time, an annual
staff meeting. Four such beach houses were secured and the visitors
assigned to each one. We've just found our downstairs showers aren't
working.

Gotta have coffee.

It's our brains that weren't working. Gotta pull on the handle.
