How long can the Gen 2 remain on since they have heating elements? Our sensors become very saturated after about an hour. One of our sensors started melting the outer case

The QZFM sensor can operate continuously for extended periods as long as the sensor is well ventilated. If the sensor is tightly packed in foam or some other thermally insulating, we have seen reports of thermal runaway condition. We recently added protection features in the sensor firmware that we hope will resolve this issue in a majority of the cases. Since you are in the US, it is best to send the sensors back to QuSpin asap, and we will investigate the extent of damage and return the repaired sensors after patching the firmware.

Note: If your sensor were well ventilated but still encountered thermal runaway, please call us so that we may be able to further investigate the issue. We have seen this issue in one other instance but unable to track the source of the problem and any inputs/clues on the subject will be valuable so that we can fix the issue asap.

If you are outside US, please get in touch with us and we will upgrade your firmware with thermal protection feature as a precaution if there is any such concern.

****I would like to strongly emphasize ventilating/exposing the sensors to air as much as possible*****
See post here as an example of how to mount the sensors: http://quspin.com/experimental-meg-cap/
