I'm considering Brother QL-1050 printer and would like to know if it's supported by QZ Tray before buying it.

The Brother printers support: ESC/P, Raster and b-PAC. ESC/P does not fit my needs because of its lack of Unicode support (or so I've heard). I'm not sure about Raster and b-PAC.

Brother has a nice SDK for b-PAC (http://www.brother.com/product/dev/download/index.htm) with lots of sample codes. There is a document discussing web apps printing here: http://download.brother.com/pub/com/dev/pdf/bpac_webapplication_eng.pdf

So, has anyone tried Brother printers with QZ Tray please?

We have a few clients.  Sine some Brother models offer emulation of other raw languages, our clients have generally adapted our ESC/P examples to print to their QL series printers.  This model claims to support ESC/P in the specifications. A second mode "P-Touch" is something we're not familiar with.  If you can provide us a raw P-Touch file we'd happily translate it to QZ Tray commands for you.

In regards to the SDK you've linked, this won't work for our software as we don't yet provide any interface to the ActiveX/COM API in Windows despite the mention of "Java" in their manual.  This is misleading as Java doesn't directly support COM either, so there must be a bridge they wrote.  We have no immediate plans to offer proprietary API support although we may add this in a future release.

In addition to raw and COM we also have raster support for most all printers, so you may have success through several avenues (HTML, PDF, Image) which are all available for testing right now through our sample.html.

Hi Tres,

A P-Touch file (.lbl or .lbx) is a template pre-loaded into the printer with placeholders for data, e.g. date, name and barcode. The purpose of the b-PAC and SDK is just to send raw commands to the printer to: choose a template (a p-touch file), fill it with data and print it. This is somehow similar to the other methods supported by the QZ Tray, such as ZPL and ESC/P, but more abstract.
