Hi everyone,

I am on a Mac OS X with a Zebra LP2824 printer, I have switched the printer to page mode, when I was trying to print EPL from within the https://demo.qz.io, the thing printed on the label is not human readable. I am not sure what I did wrong, could someone encountered the similar problem shed some light on this? Thank you.

I forgot to mention my browser is Chrome Version 45.0.2454.101 (64-bit), not sure if that matters

Have you tried setting up the printer as a raw device per:  https://qz.io/wiki/setting-up-a-raw-printer-in-osx

Next, you may want to use a PC to update the firmware to the latest.  The steps are a bit manual (requires a firmware download utility) but work well, once you get the hang of it.

Hi, Tres,

I did follow the steps listed in https://qz.io/wiki/setting-up-a-raw-printer-in-osx, but it's not working either, and after that, I just add the printer from within the "System Preference" and select the corresponding driver "Zebra EPL2 label printer", now i am trying to upgrade the firmware, hope that helps.

Hi, Tres,

I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version, and it's not helping. it's stilling printing unreadable characters. the EPL command is

"\nN\nQ609,0\nq281\nA30,210,0,1,1,1,N,\"Name: New Hat\"\nA30,240,0,1,1,1,N,\"Label: Coach\"\nA30,270,0,1,1,1,N,\"Size: 13\"\nB30,300,0,1,4,8,200,B,\"1004\"\nA30,510,0,3,1,1,N,\"$20.45\"\n\nP1,1\n"

I am not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Here is a Zebra troubleshooting article:

It mentions that "dump mode" may cause gibberish, but I assume you've already power cycled the printer?

This problem may be worth contacting Zebra over.  What you are describing is not something we've experienced before.

I tried to do some research to see if a particular character set could cause this, but my research was inconclusive.

I have a contact at Zebra I will ping via email to see if he's heard of this before.

Hi Tres,

I followed the step listed in https://qz.io/wiki/setting-up-a-raw-printer-in-osx, and when I tried to print, i get the following error "qz.PrintRaw.print() failed, no print service."

Did you restart QZ Tray afterward?  No print service generally means the printer wasn't found, but we cache the printer listing, so a restart of QZ Tray is required after adding or removing printers.

Hi Tres,

I think I have found the root cause, I am adding the printer via the “System Preference > Printers & Scanners”, from within which I chose the driver “Zebra EPL2 label printer” as the driver, I guess I am supposed to add the printer from within the http://localhost:631 (CUPS interface), and choose the raw driver, after that, it prints the readable label. You are really helpful for pointing me to the right direction, thank you.

That worked for me as well. Thanks for sharing!

Hi,
I just wanted to add a little to this issue because I was a little confused on how to select the RAW Driver.
In order to add the RAW Driver, you need to change the "MAKE" of the printer from "Zebra" to "RAW" in the CUPS application.
You will then select the RAW Model: "Raw Queue (en)" - (could be different language ending).
After adding the RAW driver, the Zebra LP2824 printed the UPS Label through Chrome while using the UPS Thermal Application for Mac.
Success! Thank you all for the help!

Hi,

We would recommend forcing raw through a configuration option instead:

This will allow you to continue using the driver for applications which require it, but will bypass the driver for raw formats.
