Its strange that its not connecting to your router. We haven't had a router that did not work so far.
When you attempted the method without WPS how far did you get? Did the WIFI bridge connect and go online (blue light) after connecting it to your phone?
The version you have will be the latest version if it was purchased recently. Even if you did have an older version this should not effect the setup process.
If you can give me a rough idea of when the unit was purchased, i can then in the new year have a look if there was any features that may differ if any.
