Greetings,
I was at SciPy 2022 a couple of weeks ago, and one of the serendipitous events was that I met up with the amazing team from QuantStack [1] who are building amazing things like emscripten-forge [2, 3] which is like conda-forge but for deploying the scientific Python stack to Web Assemble, which means one can run software like QuTiP entirely in the browser using, e.g., Jupyterlite.
With a lot of help from Wolf and Martin on the QuantStack team, QuTiP is now available to try in the browser!
NB: You'll need to always use the XPython kernel, NOT the PyIodide one to run QuTiP.
Once it loads, you should see a tutorials folder on the left. You can open some of the tutorial notebooks from there.
Since this is all very beta, there are some caveats and rough edges:
- I've only tried this in Firefox. I have no idea how well it works on other browsers.
- Remember to use the XPython kernel.
- Notebooks are slow to start, but performance is not too bad after that.
I'm hoping this will be particularly useful in all sorts of places where installing QuTiP is a bit of a barrier. Once it's a bit more stable and polished, we can consider moving it to
qutip.org.
At your service,
Simon Cross
