English Translation of Al-Quran

[13].Surah Ar-Ra'd [The Thunder]

Ayat 14. For Him (Allah Alone) is the Word of Truth (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but He). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke, answer them no more than one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not, and the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use).

Tafseer Surah Ar-Ra'd Ayat 14. For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind). Haqq= truth; right; what is due, befitting, proper. All these meanings are to be understood here. If we worship anything other than Allah (whether it is idols, stars, powers of nature, spirits, or deified men, or Self, or Power, or Wealth, Science or Art, Talent or Intellect), our worship is both foolish and futile. Without Faith, it is obvious that prayer or worship has no meaning whatever. It is but an aberration of the mind. But there is a deeper meaning. You may have false faith, as in superstitions or in worshipping things other than Allah, as explained in the last note. In that case, too, you are pursuing mere phantoms of the mind. When you come to examine it, it is mere imbecility or futility. Worship and prayer are justified only to Allah, the One True God (Cf. 40:50).

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Musa Al-Ashari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah cid:1E4279DCB9CF48448B4ABF137DB638F5@gmail[SAWW] (PBUH) said, "The similitude of one who remembers his Rubb and one who does not remember Him, is like that of the living and the dead.''

[Al-Bukhari Volume 8, Book 75, Hadith # 416 ].

another narration in Sahih Muslim narrated by Hazrat Abu Musa Al-Ashari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported The Messenger of Allah cid:1E4279DCB9CF48448B4ABF137DB638F5@gmail[SAWW] (PBUH) as saying: The house in which remembrance of Allah is made and the house in which Allah is not remembered are like the living and the dead.

[Muslim Book 04, Chapter 121, Hadith # 1706].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Ar-Ra'd Ayat 14. "For Him (Allah Alone) is the Word of Truth". Lack of remembrance of Allah is akin to death. When a person dies, he is unable to do anything. Similarly, a person who does not remember Allah goes so far from Him that he cannot do anything which can benefit him.
