English Translation of Al-Quran
[60] Surah Al-Mumtahanah [That Which Examines]
Ayat 5. "Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the disbelievers, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily, You, only You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."
Tafseer of Surah Al-Mumtahanah (That Which Examines) Ayat 5. "Our Lord! Make us not a (test and) trial for the Unbelievers, but forgive us, our Lord! for Thou art the Exalted in Might, the Wise." In 8:25, 1 has explained the shades of meaning in the word Fitnah. In 2:102 Harut and Marut were a trial to test the righteous who trusted in Allah from the unrighteous who resorted to evil and superstition. Here the prayer to Allah is that we should be saved from becoming so weak as to tempt the Unbelievers to try to attack and destroy us.
Hadith الحدیث
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Sahl bin Saad (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, "People will continue to adhere to good as long as they hasten to break the Saum (fasting).''
[Al-Bukhari Volume 3, Book 31, Number 178].
Lesson : "Adhere to good'' here means welfare of the religion as well as that of this world. Breaking the Saum early does not mean that it is terminated before the prescribed time. What it really means is without any delay after the sunset. One should not delay it for the mere reason that the rigor one has gone through in the Saum should be enhanced further, as is done by some Sufi. There is no merit in such things because the real merit lies in following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH). Welfare of the Muslims will, therefore, come in the share of the Muslims because of their following the Prophet's Sunnah of breaking the Saum in the early moments of the prescribed time.
