Al-Quran القرأن

English Translation of Al-Quran

[70] Surah Al-Ma'arij [The Ways of Ascent]

Ayat 26. And those who believe in the Day of Recompense,

Ayat 27. And those who fear the torment of their Lord,

Ayat 28. Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure,

Tafseer of Surah Al-Ma'arij Ayat. 26 to 28. A true fear of Allah is the fear of offending against His Holy Will and Law, and is therefore akin to the love of Allah. It proceeds from the realization that all true peace and tranquility come from attuning our will to the Universal Will, and that sin causes discord, disharmony, and displeasure—another name for the Wrath of Allah. Some would construe this verse: "And their Lord's displeasure is one against which there is no security"; meaning that the punishment of sin may come suddenly at any time, when you least expect it.

Hadith الحدیث

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "No one who weeps out of Fear of Allah will enter Hell until milk recedes to the udder, and the dust endured while striving in the Cause of Allah and the smoke of Hell will never subsist together.''

[At-Tirmidhi # 1633].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ma'arij Ayat 27. And those who fear the torment of their Lord" This Hadith makes use of a metaphor to stress the impossible. One who weeps for Fear of Allah and one who is covered with the dust of the battlefield in the course of Jihad, will in no case enter Hell until the milk drawn from udder goes back to it. The dust of the battlefield of Jihad and the smoke of Hell cannot combine at one place. The mixing of the two is utterly impossible. However, this will apply only if one's `Aqeedah is correct and one's intention is correct (i.e., one participates in Jihad with the intention to please Allah Alone).
