Al-Quran القرأن

English Translation of Al-Quran

[69] Surah Al-Haqqah [The Sure Reality]

Ayat 10. And they (Nation of Nuh, Ad, Thamud, Lout AS and Firaun) disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment.

Ayat 11. Verily! When the water rose beyond its limits [Nuh’s (Noah) Flood], We carried you (mankind) in the floating [ship that was constructed by Nuh AS (Noah)].

Ayat 12. That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Haqqah Ayat 10, 11 and 12.. We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark), It was a widespread Flood. Cf. 7:59-64; also 11:25-49. Noah was ridiculed for his preparations for the Flood: see 11:38. But Allah had commanded him to build an Ark , in order that mankind should be saved from perishing in the Flood. But only those of Faith got into the Ark and were saved. As the Ark was built to Allah's command, Allah "carried you (mankind) in the floating ( Ark )". 12. That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. It was a memorial for all time, to show that evil meets with its punishment, but the good are saved by the mercy of Allah. Cf. the biblical phrase, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear" (Matt. 11:15). But the phrase used here has a more complicated import. An ear may hear, but for want of will in the hearer the hearer may not wish, for the future or for all time, to retain the memory of the lessons he has heard, even though for the time being he was impressed by it. The penetration of the Truth has to be far deeper and subtler, and this is desired here.

Hadith الحدیث

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said to me, "Recite: `Allahumma-hdini wa saddidni (O Allah! Direct me to the Right Path and make me adhere to the Straight Path).'' Another narration is: `Allahumma inni as'aluk-alhuda was-sadad (I beg You for guidance and uprightness).''

[Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6573].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Haqqah Ayat 12. That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it" This Hadith brings out the following points "As-Sadad'' means correctness and uprightness. Here, it signifies "please grant me the ability to do everything in a correct manner'', that is in accordance with the practice of the Prophet   [SAWW](PBUH). Some scholars of Hadith have interpreted it as steadfastness and moderation. Both interpretations accord well with its original meanings.
