Al-Quran القرأن

English Translation of Al-Quran
[68] Surah Al-Qalam [The Pen]
Ayat 42. (Remember) the Day when the Shin shall be laid bare (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and they shall be called to prostrate (to Allah), but they (hypocrites) shall not be able to do so,
Ayat 43. Their eyes will be cast down, ignominy will cover them; they used to be called to prostrate (offer prayers), while they were healthy and good (in the life of the world, but they did not).
Tafseer of Surah Al-Qalam (The Pen) Ayat 42. The Day that the shank shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to prostrate in adoration, but they shall not be able, The Day that the Shin shall be laid bare, that is, when men are confronted with the stark reality of the Day of Judgement. On that occasion men will be summoned to adoration, not necessarily in words, but by the logic of facts, when the Reality will be fully manifest: the Glory will be too dazzling for the Unbelievers, whose past deliberate refusal, when they had freedom to choose, and yet rejected, will stand in their way. 43. Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to prostrate in adoration, while they were in good shape, (and had refused). Their past memories, combined with their present position, will then fill them with a sense of the deepest dismay and humiliation, whole, in full possession of the power of judgment and will; not constrained, as they now will be, by the Punishment staring them full in the face.
Hadith الحدیث

English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Buraidah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, "That which differentiates us from the disbelievers and hypocrites is our performance of Salat. He who abandons it, becomes a disbeliever.''
[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2621]
Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qalam Ayat 42. (Remember) the Day when the Shin shall be laid bare (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and they shall be called to prostrate (to Allah), but they (hypocrites) shall not be able to do so,'” This Hadith makes the importance of Salat in Islam abundantly clear. The opinion of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) was based on the information contained in the Hadith which have been mentioned above. They did not take the Hadith which interpreted the leaving of Salat as Kufr mere scolding or reproof. They considered slackness and negligence in Salat as Kufr and apostasy and regarded Salat a symbol of Islam.
