Al-Quran القرأن

English Translation of Al-Quran

[50] Surah Qaf [Qaf]

Ayat 39. So, bear with patience (O Muhammad [SAWW](PBUH) all that they say, and glorify the Praises of your Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting (i.e. the Fajr, Zuhr, and 'Asr prayers).

Ayat 40. And during a part of the night (also), glorify His praises (i.e. Maghreb and 'Isha prayers), and (so likewise) after the prayers [As-Sunnah, Nawafil optional and additional prayers, and also glorify, praise and magnify Allah - Subhan Allah, Alhamdu lillah, Allahu-Akbar].

Tafseer of Surah Qaf Ayat 39 & 40. Bear, then, with patience, all that they say, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting. Allah should be remembered at all times. But the best time for individual adoration is early in the morning before sunrise, late in the day before sunset, and a portion of the night, when there is stillness in the air, and man's spirit loves to commune with spiritual things. Those who would connect this with the five canonical prayers, instituted at a later stage in Madinah, would take the Fajr for the prayer before sunrise, the Zuhr and the 'Asr for the afternoon prayers before sunset and the Maghreb and the 'Isha' for the night prayers. 40. And during part of the night, (also,) celebrate His praises, and (so likewise) after the postures of adoration. The general meaning of after the postures of adoration would be the contemplation and remembrance of Allah after prayers. Those who would connect this passage with the five canonical prayers understand these further prayers "following the sujud or postures of adoration" to mean the extra or supernumerary prayers known as Nafl, also the use of the Rosary or the fingers in remembering the Names of Allah.

Hadith الحدیث

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires".

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shura Ayat 20. Whosoever desires (with his deeds) the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world (with his deeds), We give him thereof (what is written for him), and he has no portion in the Hereafter” This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.
