English Translation of Al-Quran
[21].Al-Anbiya' [The Prophets]
Ayat 13. Flee not, but return to that wherein you lived a luxurious life, and to your homes, in order that you may be questioned.
Ayat 14. They cried: "Woe to us! Certainly! We have been Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, etc.)."
Ayat 15. And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is reaped, extinct (dead).
Tafseer Surah Al-Anbiya Ayat 13 to 15 Flee not, but return to the good things of this life which were given you, and to your homes in order that ye may be called to account. 'You thought your homes were so comfortable: why don't you go back to them? You will be called to account. Perhaps there may be rewards to be given to you, who knows?' This irony is itself the beginning of the Punishment, but the ungodly now see how wrong they had been. But their sighs and regrets now avail them of nothing. It is too late. They are lost, and nothing can save them. They said: "Ah! woe to us! We were indeed wrongdoers!" And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is mown, as ashes silent and quenched. The two similes present two different aspects of the lamentations of the ungodly. When they really see the Wrath to come, there is a stampede, but where can they go? Their lamentation is now the only mark of their life. But it dies away, as corn vanishes from a field that is being mown, or as a dying fire is slowly extinguished! They do not die. They wish they were dead!

English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah
[SAWW](PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires".
[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]
Lesson : This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.
