Regional Workshop
Quran Conference
The Al Burhaan Group has decided to hold a regional workshop in
Johannesburg on Monday, August 9 called "Towards a Quranic Community -
The Socio-Economic Requirements". We intend to develop a framework for
the implementation of the establishment of a Baitul Maal within the
South African context and take the first steps towards this objective
with specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely goals.
We would like to suggest that other halaqaat groups around the country
do the same or those who are in the Johannesburg area to join us and
participate. We can then work nationally to implement this.
Please contact me if you have any suggestions or would like to
participate. Details will follow shortly.

We have decided to move the above workshop to the weekend of 28 & 29
August 2010. It will take place on Saturday from 13:00 till just before
iftaar and Sunday from 13:00 till just before iftaar. The venue will be
confirmed in due cause, but it will be taking place in Johannesburg.
While this is a regional workshop, it is open to all of you. As I
mentioned before, it would be great if this could happen regionally
around the country, but if it is not happening in your region, and any
of you are interested in attending and/or presenting at the workshop,
please let me know as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements
for meals, accommodation, etc.
I would like to stress from the very outset that this will be a workshop
which will not end without a way forward. Concrete steps will be put in
place for the first steps in establishing a Baitul Maal.
On a personal note, I will NOT leave this workshop on Sunday until there
is a clear, deifnitive, practical way forward. This must be in the form
of SMART goals. I hope that those of you who attend are of the same
mindset. Please bring all your enthusiasm, but above all a will to
create a change the society we live in.
The provisional format of the workshop will be as follows:
Saturday: Some presentations on Quranic Economic Concepts as well as
presentations of questions that people have regarding economics
generally or the formation of a true Baitul Maal in line with Quranic
Values.
Sunday: There will be no theorising. Bring your workboots and overalls
(metaphorically). We WILL come out on Sunday with a way forward (however
few are committed to making this happen insha Allah ( meaning that those
of us who choose to work toward this according to the laws that Allah
has put in place WILL succeed in this endeavour as this is what Allah
promises).

September 2010. We hope that this will accommodate some of you who
were interested, but found it inconvenient. Details will follow.

Jazakallah for the info below. Can we please have a look at the
"pre-workshop" read material prior to sending out, preferably distribute
at our Halqa. I do not want you and I to be labelled as working outside
of Shura; you know what I mean. Most will not read prior to the
workshop, but let's just be careful.....
As far as Al Burhaan and Kelvin are concerned we should not have any
issues with numbers. We know what the numbers are.
We need to confirm with Rafiq (Lens) and Al Asr guys in Pta. I will
confirm with Ladysmith and Estxourt, shortly.
