Hi,
I downloaded and installed QL to see if I could make use of it as part of a personal project. When I launched the application (on my Windows machine) the first thing I noticed is that it defaults to the language of my "region" (or country if you like) without asking my preference. Quite a bad design decision. It would make sense to default to the interface language of the operating system but the locale? That's just frustrating. (1)
I must admit QL is not the only program that does this, so I'm experienced at finding "Preferences" and the "Language Settings" so that I can revert the interface language back to English. But there comes the second surprise: there is no "Language Preferences" in the whole interface. So if you happen to live in, say Russia and set your region correctly to be able to have the correct time, then you're stuck with Russian interface. (2)
These 2 frustrations are enough for me to just uninstall the application without any further investigation (as of now I'm quite sure that QL is not my choice of audio player). And that's what I'll do once I'm done with investigating QL's way of handling the media library.
But before that: in case some other people experience the same annoyances as I did and are more patient than me here is how to revert back to the English user interface:
- Close QL
- Go to C:\Program Files\Quod Libet\share\locale (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Quod Libet\share\locale)
- Open 'locale.alias' file in a text editor (Notepad would do)
- Delete the content of the file, save it and close the file.
- Launch QL. Now you should have the English UI.
If you want some other language as your interface, you will probably need to keep the line with your preferred language. If you want your interface in Turkish that the locale.alias file should have the following line:
turkish tr_TR.ISO-8859-9
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers.
