In this post, I aim to address a common use-case which appears often in the Knack Community. That is how to send an email with a table of records from your Knack database. Examples of this would be, for example, invoices and orders with multiple...
I still use Knack, but as other users I would GLADLY pay a monthly fee to have an ACTUAL BACK UP of the database in a usable format (with table linkage and attachments). I am honestly incredibly surprised that this is not a bigger deal to Knack as a company, as anyone who works in IT knows that backups are the key to reliability, and currently you can accidentally delete thousands of records or hours of work in a click or two, with no way to recover.
Maybe they think that it would lead to using Knack as a designer, and not paying monthly fees? Which is a bit strange, as the online and mobile integrated parts are what make it most useful... I know how to design a database, but having one that works as seamlessly and has an easy interface is completely different...
My programmer has developed an extraction routine that brings the data down into our backup database environment on ur own server. I agree that there should be some guarantees or at least an offering for backup.
I also agree, I have mission/business critical information going into our database and need the ability to make sure it is backed up. This was reinforced last week when my ISP had a hard disk failure (it happens) and then could only restore me back to 24hrs prior. Thankfully I had a full backup so no data was lost. But without that option I would have been stuffed.
Is there anyone from the Knack team who can speak to this issue? Like all the others who have posted here over the past six (!!!) years, I would like to be able to export and back-up our database. What does Knack recommend?
I have been working very diligently with a great platform to back up my Knack database SECURELY! The vendor is All-in-one Website & Database Backups Automation (simplebackups.com), they built a recipe that allows you to enter your API and App ID, choose the objects you want backed up. Fully automated, the scheduler sets the specific time you want your backup process to run. Finally, they offer many different storage options available to you to distribute your back up (i.e., SFTP, S3). They also allow you to encrypt your backups with a public key (has to be in PEM format). Amazing service. Highly recommend.
Two hours+ ago all the records from our database disappeared. No warning.
With no telephone numbers I am relying on support to read emails.
Not good enough when this catastrophic event has occured and I ahve no way of knowing why.
Your apps should all be back up and running, but if you are still having any troubles please do reach out to sup...@knack.com or tag me here with a ticket number and we can jump on and have a look for you.
Last week, we performed a major version upgrade on our database systems. Our cloud provider assured us that downtime would be minimal, and our testing environments validated this. However, for our European and US production regions, the downtime was longer than anticipated. The majority of customers experienced 30 minutes or less of downtime, but some faced up to 4 hours.
This is an extremely critical feature to allow for complex Boolean logical expressions (i.e. nested ANDs and ORs). Please move this to the top of the list to make Knack a legitimate relational database engine.
Right now the only way to get around it is to filter by the desired parameters, submit the filter, then use the keyword search box in the table view. Please revisit the filtering logic ASAP as it will dramatically improve the product offering for those of us using the app as a database.
I used knack for about a year. Since it was the first no-code tool I found, I was initially super happy.
I built an app for one of my companys, and although the UI was baaad, it kind of did what I wanted it to do. At least it did a minimum of what I wanted it to do
To allow users to change their payment cards without service interruption, you can explore payment gateways that offer card updating functionality. These gateways typically provide a way for users to securely update their card information, ensuring a smooth transition without any interruption in their access to the database.
Note: During the trial period, which lasts for 14 days, you can freely explore and get acquainted with the Knack online database platform. Rest assured, there is no need to provide any credit card information during this trial period.
Upon request, database records and/or app structure restoration can be fulfilled provided the record history or schema backup is still available, based on the retention policies as outlined above. Restoring records and apps normally take 1-3 hours of manual work, however, the processing time to complete the full restore can take longer than that.
Our site is www.datacove.ca, but if you're a small business, some workarounds aren't terrible. Just be cautious with them, because eventually they will become an issue if you continue to expand your system. Database hierarchies and Knack views in particular (which get tied to various database connections) are generally pretty unforgiving. Having to be told to rebuild your system is never something anyone wants to hear.
I have to agree with John Good here, and defend those 'big developer bills'. I've seen enough Knack databases to know these kinds of workarounds always end up badly in the end. If your company is growing, so is your system. If you start with a foundation consisting of workarounds, building on top of it becomes impossible. You end up with a twisted, contorted set of objects and views. There are so many instances where clients do these workarounds, and many of them actually recommended by Knack support and their how-to documents.
The ability for build a bulk data import to the Knack database will be a definite plus for me. I have users who wants to generate a CSV file from their internal company database on a daily basis. Then using the app developed in Knack to enable them to self import the CSV file to the Knack database on their own (without having to use the builder).
Another option, they are also able to accept is the ability to copy and paste the data to the knack form/table then trigger the processing of the data from the populated table/form - just. like how you would copy and paste cells in Excel spreadsheet.
Please can you review this feature request Knack team. I want my team to be able to import into the database without them having access to the builder. Just a simple upload from a csv would be amazing.
Its been so many years that Users of Knack are asking for the ability to import data (in bulk) using CSV filesinto the Knack database from the live app (and not from builder) - has anyone seen any further feedback from Knack or has anyone found any good solutions to share?
I am not yet an AppSheet user, but it has been recommended to me.
I need to be able to create a field service app for my client that can work offline (due to remote areas/confined spaces etc), when service is restored it needs to post cached records to a Knack database.
As for connecting to a Knack database, I am not sure. I have never heard of it until today. The only thing I can offer is to give it a try. I would focus on attempting to get this connection to work first if using Knack is a make or break concern.
Knack was founded in 2012 by web developers Brandon Griggs and Eric Katherman, who saw how difficult it was for their clients to build data-driven features and applications without an in-depth knowledge of coding. With its flexible database-driven approach, Knack is now one of the top no-code platforms, providing an easy-to-use no-code solution to thousands of customers across industries, such as fintech, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and others. The Knack platform enables users to easily build business applications that get data to the right users, at the right time, with the right workflows while leveraging drag-and-drop interfaces. No-code platforms are quickly becoming the go-to solution for businesses needing custom applications without dependency on IT or teams of developers. To drive further ease of use, Knack supports a robust online community of builders that clients can access for assistance.
- Lives up to the "no code" billing many other platforms tout, but with Knack you can actually build a feature-rich app without coding.
- Zapier integration recently improved, greatly expanding the capabilities of the app
- Out of 10-15 database apps I tried, the learning curve was shorter and support documentation was more useful with Knack
- Easy to implement and strong user security/user roles implementation
- Unlike many business-focused app builders, Knack is designed for many users in structure and in pricing model, so it's the best for customer-facing applications (including ecommerce websites)
- Basic subscription plan includes all the features most will need, unlike many apps that pull 1-2 critical features into their mid-tier and enterprise plans.
