Effective January 3, 2018, amendment to regulations implementing Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, require the provision of Personal Assistant Services or PAS to certain employees with targeted disabilities who request and require non-medical and non-work task personal assistance, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the agency. HHS anti-discrimination policies apply to this new affirmative action requirement, and no employee should be discriminated against based on need for PAS.

In addition to signing a strict nondisclosure policy, all our personal assistants are provided with the proper training, coaching, and ongoing support to ensure their success and your complete satisfaction.

The first day my personal assistant came, I was working all day in the office. When I came out, there were flowers, my home was tidy, and dinner was prepped in the fridge. I almost started crying!
I have needed help for a long time, but I was thinking I could handle everything on my own. My Pepper's PA has provided incredible value and impact on my life.

PAS services are consumer directed. Individuals must demonstrate the ability to self-manage their PAS program as it pertains to recruitment and hiring of attendants. DARS neither maintains a registry of individuals who provide personal assistance nor provides recommendations.

As a freelance writer and photographer, I often find myself trawling job boards for one-off gigs. Late last year I responded to a Kijiji post seeking a shooter for a wedding photo booth, but I never heard back and quickly moved on. Many months later, someone named Anthony responded to my application offering $500 a week for part-time remote work as a personal assistant. Even though it was not really what I wanted to be doing, I took what seemed to be a random opportunity and ran with it.

In my experience an Executive Assistant and an Administrative Assistant are two very distinct roles. AAs may provide general administrative support to multiple people (calendars, documentation, travel, supply ordering, etc) but stay away from the personal tasks. Executive Assistants do all of the same things; may get dry cleaning, handle personal appointments, do board minutes, etc. Very common to have an EA doing that type of work. They are typically highly compensated for their skills and their discretion.

I would disagree that this is like stealing from the company. All the executives I work with are on the road constantly and donate a lot of personal time to the company. If the director asks someone making one quarter of her salary to get her lunch so she can personally work through lunch, it makes sense and is actually a better deal for the company (i.e. you get 10 hrs fewer of productive work from the lower paid employee but the tradeoff is 10 more hrs beyond 40/wk from the higher paid person).

MIPA is what we all dream about having, a personal assistant that will help you though your day, week and next week. MIPA brings you all need to remember, prepare, and find directly in your favorite daily tool, Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Office.

While executive assistants tend to report to executives and senior managers, personal assistants usually serve a mid or senior manager. There are many personal assistant job duties that are common across all industries. However, companies in some industries or sectors will require specific personal assistant skills and knowledge, and may also be looking for a personal assistant to take on some additional responsibilities.

For example, some managers may need personal assistants to travel with them on business trips, or, if they work with international clients, will need a personal assistant who can accommodate unusual business hours to account for time differences.

Some companies, however, will require you to have graduated high school, while others will prefer that you have a college degree (in any subject). Additionally, a degree or diploma in business administration or a technology-related field can be very advantageous when applying for personal assistant roles.

Personal assistants need to be skilled in interacting with a range of different people such as the office manager, executive secretaries, and other personal secretaries. From making travel arrangements and managing diaries, interpersonal skills are crucial in helping to support their managers with everything they need to be effective.

As we mentioned above, while there are standard personal assistant skills and qualities, certain industries will require more specific, specialized skills, such as social media skills, administration skills, or experience managing budgets. The more you can show how much you know about the industry or type of company you want to work for, the better your chances of landing a personal assistant role.

Not every personal assistant role will be the right fit for you. Doing some market research via job boards and vacancies will help you work out which industries you'd like to work in, but it'll also help you ascertain the average salary, what type of career paths and career progression personal assistants usually enjoy, and how best to structure your resume and cover letter for potential roles.

For many individuals with disabilities, personal assistance services (PAS) help make employment possible. Some people use PAS to carry out activities of daily living. Depending on the individual, such activities might include getting up and ready for work, bathing, dressing, cooking, cleaning, or running errands.

Eligible candidates for CDChoices consumers must be of legal adult age to provide personal assistance services. This allows both the consumer and personal assistant to set terms of employment that are not restricted by federal limits for minors. Adult-aged employees are also able to perform more independent actions on behalf of the consumer they are assisting.

CDPAP personal assistants cannot be the spouse or the custodial parent of the consumer. A custodial parent refers to the parent who has primary custody of a minor or an adult-aged child that does not have the ability to make independent decisions.

CDChcoices personal assistants and must not be barred or excluded from providing services that are funded by Medicare, Medicaid, or other federally funded health programs. Eligible candidates must be in good standing with these organizations to be considered for employment by our consumers.

Provided that you meet the five above requirements and are willing and able to complete the onboarding process, you can begin searching here for employment that matches your expertise. In the workplace, a Personal Assistance Service (PAS) is provided as a reasonable accommodation to enable an employee to perform the essential functions of a job. The employer's responsibility for providing reasonable accommodations begins when the employee reaches the job site and concludes when the workday ends. The Personal Attendant (PA) is only able to provide access to otherwise inaccessible aspects of the job or personal care.

EEOC amended its regulations implementing Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to require agencies to provide personal assistance services. Personal assistance services help individuals who, because of targeted disabilities, require assistance to perform basic activities of daily living (e.g., eating and using the restroom), but the services are not related to their job performance. For more information on these requirements for PAS, please see the EEOC fact sheet on PAS:

An employee who travels for work and requires the services of a PA is not personally responsible for covering the additional costs incurred as a direct result of the travel. PA services can be provided through DRC's contracted services and/or by invitational travel (family member/friend).

Personal assistants must be able to manage executive calendars and coordinate both internal and client-facing meetings. By staying up to date and organized with their calendars, effectively working within scheduling constraints, and keeping all parties updated, they can ensure meetings are as seamless as possible.

Because they work closely with supervisors and clients, personal assistants are often given access to a variety of documents, personal data, and other classified information. Even the smallest oversight can lead to severe consequences, which is why candidates should meticulously check their work and maintain discretion at all times.

Occasionally, personal assistants are tasked with creating presentations. By conducting comprehensive research and reaching out to others for insights, candidates can prepare their findings in a focused, digestible manner. They should also be prepared to familiarize themselves with any supervisor or team preferences.

Personal assistants must be able to manage multiple deadlines at once. They should be prepared to conduct frequent check-ins, communicating with the appropriate parties to ensure all expectations are met. By meticulously keeping up with both internal and client-related timelines, they can ensure all tasks are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.
