We've been using 64bit across the board for years and had no issues, we have a variety of office addins too. the only exception would be if there was a addin that needed 32bit (but there isn't one that requires 32bit) 64bit for the win I reckon. especially for the finance dept with their spreadsheets that load more than 4gb of data its a must.

I tried deploying 64 bit. Unfortunately we have other software that uses 32bit components of office and it caused problems, so went back to 32bit. Can't say as I have seen a major difference. Most of what you do in Office on a daily basis doesn't seem to really matter.

For the longest time we pushed out the 32bit version (local network install downloaded from Microsoft) because we would get weird random issues that just didn't happen with 32bit or we would have an edge case where the accounting software (Sage50) was just not updated to work with 64bit Outlook / Excel for whatever reason. Then a while back i was doing some testing and grabbed a fresh copy from microsoft and realised MS had at some point switched the default installer from 32Bit to 64bit on their website so all our home users we're getting the 64bit version anyway without realising it and no one had been complaining about issues. So we bit the bullet(tested first) and decided if MS is pushing 64bit by default now is the time to start using the 64bit version. We were probably late to the 64bit party but have been pushing Office 64bit since version 11929.20254 or since July 2019.

I remember there was an official statement from Microsoft regarding this topic where they outline that 32 bit is no longer required, it was originally use to ensure that office didn't use too much of the available resource. 32bit was limited to 2GB for the whole suite, however, Microsoft state that modern computers have more than enough resource to handle office without the applied limits as such you can install the 64-bit application. If you have older systems with limited resource use 32, for everything else 64 is recommended. Microsoft now push this by default for local 365 installations.
