Hi
I bought a 75P8m.
How did you find the TV
Any suggestions on the setting
When I connect my xbox one x , I see better quality pic on Netflix. Just wondering if you can see the difference.

I enabled some developer options and now my TV won't boot at all. I can't find the reset button, and I can't find any user manuals to reset it manually either. I have sent an email to TCL tech support and will follow that up with a call tomorrow.

I bought this TV from The Good Guys, and I thought it was stange that they didn't have a model on display, or any reviews on their website. Looks like they only put reviews (from some stupid vendor called reevoo) for the good products, presumeably to boost sales.

Hi bubbaganoosh, I haven't experienced any of the issues you report with my 75P8M. Tech Support emailed me a manual immediately after requesting it on the phone (the manual wasn't yet on their site). However, I'm afraid I don't see anything about "developer options" or "Factory Re-set" in the manual.

bubbaganoosh i have the 2018 tcl andorid tv and i also have that netflix issue where there is no video. i think it is related to the fast boot. Anyways if you want that issue solved i would suggest downgrading to android 7, which in my experience is much better and stable and also fixes that netflix issue. Fast boot works 8 out of 10 times for me and i am quite happy with it.
just a heads up, if you do downgrade, you MUST downgrade to V369 first and then you can upgrade to latest android 7 build V379. if you downgrade from oreo to directly V379 your TV won`t boot. Hope it helps.
PS: I emailed TCL regarding the netflix issue, they say that there engineers are working on a patch for oreo but there is no eta.
Hope i helped you. Cheers!

I have install the v544 software and it appears to have resolved many of the issues i had with the OS preivously. Specifically sound bar compatibility and Netflix issues. I haven't fully tested everything yet, but at first glance, it looks quite positive. Ill have to try the fast boot option and see if that changes anything.

I know this comes up a lot, but why exactly are the TV models in Aus different from the USA? I've heard people cite our market isn't as big, however I don't see how that explains it. If anything, wouldn't it be more effort on their part to create different models for our small market, rather than just give us the same as the USA?

Costco have a seemingly great deal on the TCL 43" P8M. It mentions "4kHDR" on the marketing material, box, website etc, but there's absolutely no mention of whether it supports HDR10. Can anyone clarify?

Like others, I have found the device to be buggy, and the interface laggy/sluggish, but I don't believe this is an inherent flaw in Android, since Sony TVs don't have the same issues, and I think my P8M TV only has 1.5Gb of RAM. You might find the interface is slightly more responsive by enabling Android Developer Options, and turning off all animations.

I have been trying to find out about the new Qled Mini-led TV's that are supposed to be coming out. I know that TCL just released the Series 8 Qled Mini-Led TV 65" and 75" in the USA this month and have been selling out. I sent an email to TCL Australia 2 weeks ago enquiring if we are going to be getting similar TV's as the USA and as of yet have not received any reply. I have seen a few reviews and they have been mostly positive. Anybody else heard any news about the TCL 8 Series Qled Mini-Led TV's possibly coming to Australia?

Thought I'd mention I purchased a TCL 50P8M 50" 2019 model 2 days ago. Had seen quite a bit of talk about the 2017-18 models being not great. However I was swayed by a tech review site rating the TCL TVs as very good for budget.

Been very happy with it as it's my first 4k TV (my old tv was 13 years old only 1080i). Blu-ray looks amazing on it and probably could only tell the more expensive TVs are better of sitting side by side. Also worth mentioning it comes with Android 9 right out of the box as I've seen a lot of chatter about versions. Menus are smooth and fast so haven't noticed and clunkiness yet that I've read about. Perhaps Android 9 fixed the issues?

Is it just me, or does TCL play absolutely awful demo content at stores? I saw it at The Good Guys recently, and I thought it must have just been the retailer not displaying things correctly (throwback to when I remember JB using RCA connections to their HD TVs for demo instead of HDMI). However, at JB Parramatta, they have the TCL 85" on display, and the demo content is also truely horrid. I would say somewhere between standard def and 720p. Very low bitrate too. Surely this can't be the manufacturer, right? I can't recall if there was a HDMI in the back, or just built in demo stuff.

They do mention HDR10 on the X series, so the absence on the P8M is a very good indication. HDR10 is an input standard more than a capability, it might be able to process the signal but it's not doing much with it, and the fact that they don't even mention HDR10 is kind of damming since that's kind of the minimum these days (The top panels are onto HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision).

As an indication, HDR400 is the lowest certified HDR standard and requires 400nits of brightness, the 43" P8M has a measly 270 nits. A lot of people wouldn't consider it really HDR without at least 600 nits and local dimming.

Anyone has this problem:
My tv connected to AV Receiver via ARC.
I played a usb harddisk video file, then stopped for 15 mins, my AV Receiver auto turned off because of idle timeout.
The the ARC did not work anymore, had to use the TV build in speaker.

I think this bug seems to happen with lots of Oreo Android TV, not only with TCL Android TV, but the support seems not to be helpful and dont want to have a look into as well. Not sure any one has the same issue?

does anyone has issues updating apps from Google Play Store ? it is so slow , I have 5 updates (WebView / Google App / Netflix etc, nothing large in size) , it is updating but it taken 12hrs so far and it has updated 2 out of 5.

I picked up a 50P8M during TGG eBay sale and am having a couple of problems. I've been trawling forums for the past few days and have contacted TCL support with no success, I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice.

When I turn on the HDR from my PS4 Pro, the image changes and the colours look really washed out. There's an example here: It seems this is a common problem with various TVs and all my settings tweaking (on both the PS4 and TV) based on the various things I've read haven't helped so far, especially because most of what I read is based on the Roku TCL TVs which have a completely different UI and seem to have many more settings to play with. So far, these are the conclusions that I've read:

- The HDR is working fine and I'm just used to the cartoonish colours of non-HDR (I don't think this is correct based on other HDR vs. non-HDR comparisons I've watched for various games)
- This is a cheap TV and the HDR just isn't very good, I'm better off leaving it turned off
- There's some problem with the settings that I haven't figured out yet

My other problem is related to the optical out for audio, I can't get this to work with my setup despite calling TCL support. I also can't get the ARC to work for audio. I came to the conclusion it just doesn't like my sound system and have set up a workaround but wanted to know if anyone else here had a similar problem.

I was planning on buying the 50P8M model for gaming from my PC in 1920*1080 and want to hear from somebody who owns one that it does indeed support this kind of resolution and the refresh rate as well.
Cheers

Mine seems to have the stickers attached direct to the LCD screen, along with the strips of tape along each edge.
Have they forgotten to put a sheet on, or am I missing it?
I could try picking off the top layer like the Samsung folding phone owners did :-)

The bezel does have protective plastic film, which is not obvious and I'm sure lots of buyers leave it on. But I see no sign of protective plastic on the actual display, just the tape that would have held it on.

I got myself a 50P8M during the good guys ebay sale. Plex won't play any 5.1 DTS audio though for some reason. Has anyone else had this same problem/found a solution for it? The same files play fine through Kodi but Plex is my preferred player.

I have the same TV and problem with my PS4 Pro. I found a fix by going to Settings -> System -> Advanced Settings -> HDMI 2.0 set to on. This seemed to have fixed the washed out colours, and still says HDR10 in the corner.

Yes, I picked it up from the warehouse. No damage to packaging. But we unpacked and mounted it on the wall and turned it on. Harvey Norman will not replace or refund, and has said to take it up with the accc.

Looked at the P8M and very impressed with the picture. Looked much better than the Hisense ones including an R8 model. All looked washed out. The P8M image looked almost 3D in comparison. And much better contrast. But unsure if that is all just bad adjustment of the settings at JB Hifi.

A few things don't make sense. The MR model is presumably newer and adds Dolby Vision & HDR 10+, assume the backlight may be brighter but according to the website it's the same as the P8M. Strangely it's listed as having an RRP $500 less than the older model?

Anyone had the picture preset modes (dynamic, sports) disappear from the menu? Not a biggie as I set my own picture settings, except movie mode for Blu-ray. Strange it's suddenly disappeared though. I'm on the latest update as far as I am aware.

1. Can the Netflix app (or any streaming app) play 4k video if available and the connection is capable?
It should yes.
2. How about 4k videos using the built-in Chromecast?
Not tried but can't see why not
3. Better off using a Chromecast ultra or apple TV?
I would say apple tv or shield tv or even an xbox one x . I'm having a few issue with apps i've installed working, but that's not why I purchased the TV.
