I had the same problem. There is a quick and easy fix. Go to My Albums section and then go into the album "iPhoto Events" and then hit Command + A (Select All) that will highlight all the events. Then right click and click on move events out of "iPhoto Events". Once you do this, all your events will be individual albums listed in the album section. Hope this helps. Cheers!

All photos in the library will appear in the Photos mode window. It's only the Events that were in iPhoto at the time of conversion that are represented by albums in the folder titled "iPhoto Events". But those photos are still in the library and will show up under Photos, All Photos , etc. The Photos mode window show the photos by Moments which are the new Events.

When you delete a shared album, it's automatically removed from all of your devices and the devices of your subscribers. If you turned on Public Website, the shared album is removed from the web, too. Deleting a shared album permanently deletes all of its photos. Before continuing, make sure that you save any photos that you want to keep.

To share an album with friends or family who don't use iCloud, open a shared album that you created, go to the People tab, and turn on Public Website. Your photos publish to a website that anyone can see in an up-to-date web browser.

When you add new photos, the people that you share the album with are notified automatically. Make sure that Subscribers Can Post is turned on so that they can add photos and videos, too. Just tap the More button then choose Shared Album Details .

If you're the owner of a shared album, you can delete any photos, videos, or comments from anyone. Subscribers can delete anything that they personally added. Anything you delete is automatically deleted from the album on all your devices and the devices of subscribers.

You can also share albums with friends and family who don't use iCloud. Just open a shared album that you created, click the People button in the toolbar, and turn on Public Website. Your photos publish to a website that anyone can see in an up-to-date web browser.

A shared album can hold up to 5000 photos and videos. If you reach your Shared Album limit, you need to delete some photos or videos before adding new ones. The photos and videos you share (and the comments or likes associated with those photos) stay in iCloud until you or the contributor delete them manually, or until you delete the shared album completely.

But I understand that each of those photos in an event is essentially duplicated on my computer, taking up twice the space it needs to. Albums does not do that. So I SHOULD have them in albums, right?

***Can I create a new album by year, with folders by month, and then drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste the pictures from the 'old' events to the new folders/albums? And then delete the events? Or will there be some problems with doing that?

Is there a way to either 1. select a whole album for upload or 2. easily select all photos in an album for upload? From what I have tried, it appears I can only select one photo at a time. I have 2,400 favorite photos I want to upload to Dropbox and selecting them one at a time is not a task I am up for.

And importing to my Mac first doesn't seem to be an option either... Image Capture doesn't show albums. iPhoto wants to import all photos first (and can't because there's not enough space on my computer). iTunes doesn't show albums because iCloud is on. I could download from iCloud but then the photos lose all the date/time metadata that I need.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, when I click on the big + button, then uploads, the next option is to choose an album and my only choices are: all photos, instagram, dropbox, and snapchat. Not sure why it doesn't show all my albums. The only option I am seeing is to hunt for my 2,000 favorites hidden amongst the 30,000 photos in the "all photos" album... seems like there should be a much more efficient option

I am trying to sort out cloud storage for my photos. They are on Apple Photos on a Mac running Sierra 10.12.6. I already have an external harddrive on which they are regularly backed up. What I want to do is copy all of my photos and videos and have them on a cloud. I want to export them in albums/ year groupings and I don't want the "library" to transfer to dropbox as I know that doesnt work and can lead to photo loss. I want to keep all of the original Photos library on my desktop.

What Ive been doing is creating albums in Photos, selecting then dragging and dropping into folders I have created in Dropbox in my finder on my Mac. Does this just copy them or am I moving the original from the Photos library to the Dropbox?

Hi Kate, I have the same issue and find a way. Did you do follow the suggestion? Are you satisfied with it? What about when you add some photo to old albums. Do you just export it again? It is still a very manual process. I even consider to move away from apple photo to a different program. But Google i.e. does not have the same functionality.

Photos Takeout, an app on the Mac app store, does exactly this. It can export album-wise, year-wise or moment/date-wise folders from Photos on Mac to Dropbox, other cloud services, Mac or external HD. I use it on Big Sur, but it works on older macOSs too. It can also export incrementally i.e. photos added and edited since the last export.

If this works for you, please mark this as the correct answer so that it can also help others.

PS: You can also export one album at a time with Photos app by selecting all photos in the album, then clicking File / Export in the top menu (Don't use Drag & drop because it'll export JPG versions and exclude some of the metadata).

Yes, I am doing the same trying to send albums to other users. Transferring to other users that are PC, metadata isn't transferring with the picture? Not sure if it transfers to Mac users, haven't tested. Pulling my hair out on this metadata/Mac problem. Don't want to spend hours on my 1000's of pictures tagging, adjusting times, locations, titles (many are old scanned pictures). Any help or direction appreciated. Joyce

I want to transfer all my photos in Apple photos app to Dropbox. (I realize that the album format present in the app unfortunately cannot not be duplicated in the folder I have created in Dropbox for the transfer) Is it better to export the photos via the export function in apple Photos app or to use the upload feature in Dropbox? Is there any difference in the quality of the photo that ends up in Dropbox? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Trying to create a photo book with iPhoto and need some help getting started? In this blog post we'll cover the basics of using iPhoto, from selecting photos, selecting sizes, or changing your theme. Using your iPhoto photo library, create gorgeous custom photo albums, photo journals, or scrapbooks quickly and easily, with Apples custom theme designs. It's pretty easy, so let's get started.

In your iPhoto library, select your photos either by holding the command key and click on the photos for your photo book. If you accidentally click away at this moment you will lose all of your selected photos, so an easy way to prevent this is to create a new album, and drag the photos to the album that you want in your photo book as you select your photos. Once all of your photos are placed in the album, click a photo and press the Command Key + A on your keyboard to select all images in your album.

iPhoto is a useful app that comes pre-installed on Mac computers, helping users organize and manage their photos. However, as your photo library grows over time, you may want to delete unwanted or duplicate photos to save space. Deleting photos from an iPhoto album or library is easy once you know how.

Knowing how to properly delete photos from albums or your entire iPhoto library can help you manage your growing photo collection and free up storage space on your Mac. Carefully review which photos to delete, empty the iPhoto trash to confirm removal, and act quickly if you need to recover accidentally deleted photos. With a little regular maintenance, your iPhoto library can remain organized and clutter-free for years to come.

You can't create an album inside another album. But you can create folders in Mac Photos to organize your albums. Choose File, New Folder to create one. Then drag and drop albums into and out of the folders.

Once you've created or shared an album, it appears in the Photos app in the Shared Albums section. To control the album's settings, tap it and then tap the person icon at the top. There, you can add or remove people from the album, allow people to add their own photos (move the Subscribers Can Post slider to on/green), get notifications of activity in the album, make the album public, and delete the album.

To delete an album in iPhone Photos, tap Albums > See All > Edit. Tap the red minus sign (-) above the album you want to delete. When you're finished, tap Done.
