Hi all,

I added a select tool to Quill.
The select tool is a "magic wand" and selects everything the wand touches in one stroke. When you lift the pen, the wand goes in "move" mode and you can move the selection. You can also change the color of the selection by clicking on a color in the palette. clicking away from the selection clears the selection. Please try it and tell me what you think (and report any issues).
For now it only selects strokes, not lines but I will add that soon.

The select tool now selects lines as well. Clicking on the eraser deletes the selection if not empty.

Can now change thickness of selection as well.
Small issues I have noticed so far:
- Hardware acceleration prevents the Canvas from drawing the rounded ends of segments on some devices (this seems to be a known bug). Roundabouts would be to add them manually or turn off hardware acceleration. I haven't done either.
- Can't change the thickness of selection to whatever is the current thickness in the menu. Just change to a different thickness and then to the one you want. I'll try to fix this at some point.

Anything else I should add while I'm at it (besides Copy/Paste)?

Added copy/paste for selected strokes/lines (these commands are in a new "Edit" menu item).

Great stuff Stefan :)

Rotation and scaling of selected paths would also be great!

Thanks,
Lars

That would be cool! shouldn't be too hard to do.
Please download the latest version, it is now much faster.

Can I uninstall my Play Store Quill, then install the snapshot and not lose any of my notes? It won't let me install the snapshot on top my Play version.

You should first backup your quill notebooks then uninstall... reinstall and import.
Maybe the sync feature can do this for you, I haven't tried.

Done! Can now scale and rotate selection with two fingers. When no selection is set, can pinch to zoom the page.
Need to allow gestures while writing in preferences for this to work.

The new version now allows select/copy/paste/rotate/scale images as well.
Be careful, this version uses a modified file format to handle rotated images so I would recommend you do not use it (or this feature) for important notebooks until Volker has integrated the feature into the main branch. Rotated images will not be rendered properly on PDF exports.

PDF export for rotated images now works.
Added more selection tools: Magic wand/rectangle/lasso. Change selection tool by long press on selection icon.
Is it better to select everything intersecting the lasso region or everything strictly contained in it? For now doing the latter.
Drawing a lasso from left to right border selects everything under the lasso curve and selection can then only be moved vertically. Could be useful to create space in the middle of a page. We might want to create a separate tool for that if it is not intuitive enough.
