Fromtime to time, I accidentally trigger the creation of a 'sticker' by holding my finger on the subject of a photo (as described in this Apple user guide). This can be pretty annoying, but it's worse than annoying if you happen to do it in the Files app, because if you then move your finger, it duplicates the subject and plonks it down right over the top of your original photo!

It seems that you have one brief chance to undo this, by tapping on the tiny blue ellipsis button and selecting 'Delete'. However, the first time I did this, I didn't know what to do and now the photo is ruined by having this 'sticker' on it permanently. I could find no way to undo this action or restore the photo to its original version, nor can I find any online instructions on how to remove it.

The sticker does appear to exist on a separate layer because if I touch and hold the original subject, it creates yet another complete duplicate of it, despite the fact that the first sticker is obscuring part of it. When you do this, the original photo is darkened, making both stickers stand out from the background. However, in this state, there still seems to be no way to select or delete the first sticker.

Rachel, so sorry to hear this happened to you with such a precious photo. It's annoying that Apple doesn't make it easy to jump back to a previous version of a single file on the iPhone like you can with Time Machine on the Mac.

All I can suggest at this stage is that we both submit feedback to Apple about this and hope they introduce a fix at some stage. I am slightly hopeful, as I said before, because it does seem as though the sticker is on a separate layer.

Yes, I did try markup mode, but it doesn't allow me to select the sticker. Those instructions are for deleting a sticker from your sticker collection (a feature I don't use), not from the image itself.

Thanks Richard. There appears to be no way to select an answer as being correct or even best. In any case, after receiving two upvotes, it's been automatically labelled as 'Best reply' by Apple's magical algorithm.

Thanks Richard. There appears to be no way to select an answer as being correct or even best. In any case, after receiving two upvotes, it's been automatically labelled as 'Best reply' by Apple's magical algorithm, which also seems to sort all the replies into some incomprehensible order whether they have been upvoted or not. (I know one can manually select 'Sort By: Oldest', but that gets reset each time you come back.) It's as if Apple tried to take Stack's best answer sorting and apply it to a discussion forum, which is a big usability fail if you ask me. Anyway, I'm getting off-topic now so I'll leave it there (and see if the algorithm correctly leaves this comment at the bottom of the page ?).

You can change the default sort option to "Oldest" by choosing the Edit Profile option after selecting your user icon in the upper right. Then, after you sign in and visit a page, all the comments will be sorted how you like.

Also, for the record, I can't replicate the other issue I mentioned about my draft comment getting published, leading me to wonder if I may have been editing an already published comment when I left the page. So that one we can probably put down to human error.

I want to tell you how much I appreciate you and thank you for your help. I just found an old camera and accidentally made a sticker and put it on a photo in files, of myself at 10 years old and my mother that I could never forgive myself for ruining. You just saved me from a hard cry session.

No matter what media type settings I try (photo paper glossy or matte) or what print quality (standard or high), I can't seem to print on clear vinyl sticker paper without the ink not soaking into the paper and smearing (comes out of the printer with ink beaded up and some spots are sharp while others are blurry, and even after 24 hours the ink doesn't dry and can be easily wiped away with a finger). I've even tried two different brands of sticker paper. I've also tried printing using the "all colors except PGBK" to see if that would help, since what I'm attempting to print at this point is just type, not graphics.

Can someone tell me what settings I should be using on this specific printer? I have no problem getting it to print regular photos on photo paper. I don't see an option to select "transparency" as the media type as I've seen suggested for some other printers, and the option to print in "draft" mode is grayed out in my settings (printing from Photoshop if that matters).

Your printer is a dye ink printer. Think colored water. It needs to soak into the surface of the media you are printing on. If you sprinkle plain water on the material you will have the same problem. You need to find sticker paper designed for ink jet printing.

Thanks John. The sticker paper I am using is specifically for inkjet printers, and reviews of the paper from other inkjet printer users indicate that it works for other people with different printers. So unfortunately that's not the problem.

Hello! It appears you are using off-brand labels/sticker paper. I believe that to be your problem. Please try Avery Clear Sticker paper, it is the best and comes with templates. Best to you and good luck!

This picture had nothing selectable when trying to make a sticker but it could also have had only one building being automatically selectable where I wanted to make sticker out of a different building.

Select the type of tool you want use, whether free hand or shape and highlight what you want to cut and turn into the sticker. When you have that click on NEXT (highlighted) in the upper right of the editor to create the clip

Unfortunately this does not work. When you long tap the photo and press edit it only allows you to edit the sticker that it has created. You are not given the full photo to edit into a sticker. So if the AI doesn't successfully select the parts of the photo that you want to become a sticker you can't edit and include them

Sorry having a blonde moment I do a lot of graphic design from my Galaxy Note. And that sticker function was a huge deal for me. And now that it's gone I can't figure it out. Because of an sticker, it just takes what it wants and I need to be able to draw around what I want. How do I get to that? Can you screenshot the button that I should be pushing

In theory you can print stickers using virtually any modern printer. If you use a standard 4-color inkjet printer you may not get as clear an image as you would with one which uses more cartridges. Laser printers also tend to produce sharper images.

If you're planning to run off thousands of stickers, you need to be prepared to pay for ink. We suggest doing a small test run first to make sure you're happy with the sticker image layout and quality before going into mass production. Some companies like Epson and Brother also offer reduced priced ink/ink subscriptions.

Popular online retailers like Avery or Amazon stock all kinds of blank labels for printing. Make sure to check with your printer manufacturer to see if the print media you've chosen is supported before buying.

None of the printers we've covered in this guide are specifically designed for printing onto stickers - however we've picked some of the best photo printers on the market, so all of them are ideal for the task.

Some such as the Epson SureColor P900 are best suited to producing small numbers of high-quality stickers. If you're on a mission to print stickers for everyone in your class, you may prefer to save time and money with a printer model designed for mass production such as the Brother MFC-J6955DW.

Whichever type of printer you choose, remember that results will vary based on the capabilities of your printer, your chosen image and the type of media on which you want to print. If you don't get the results you need right away, make sure to check the application settings for your printer to see if there's a specific mode for sticker or label printing. This will optimize it for the task. Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of blank label paper or images either.

Our team of reviewers have tested hundreds of the best printers and the best small business printers, reviewing color accuracy and reproduction, timing print speeds, and comparing image and text quality in a range of tests. So we know what to look for when choosing the best sticker printers for you.

From labels on containers and exercise books, to name-tags and sticky shipping labels, printers for stickers offer a really convenient way to output a range of different sticker types. There are lots of different models on the market - for instance, if you want to produce stickers in bulk, a roll-feed printer may be a better choice over one with a traditional paper tray.

To help you find the best printer for your stickers, we went hands-on with some of the top laser and inkjet models. As part of our review, we explored speed, ink-type, and output results across budget, home and office sticker printers.

The 'EcoTank' range of Epson printers has a very simple premise: they provide a lot of printer ink the box, available in bottles. During our tests, we found that the supplied ink was enough to print 14,000 black and white pages, or 5,200 color, equivalent to around 70 regular print cartridges. Replacement bottles are also inexpensive to buy. This goes a long way towards justifying the higher price tag for this EcoTank model relative to other all-in-one printers.

The EcoTank is also ideal for mass producing stickers, as it contains an ADF (Auto Document Feeder), meaning it can handle sheets of blank labels. The printer can also handle 250 sheets at a time. Its top speed is rated at 15 ppm (pages per minute) which isn't very impressive compared to its competitors but the image quality is excellent, which is most important when creating your own stickers.

The only real downside to this printer is some corners have been cut : the screen is clear and easy to use but you have to navigate it using the printer buttons. This can make entering WiFi passwords very impractical given there's no onscreen keyboard. Luckily you can also use the companion app 'Epson Smart Panel' to connect the EcoTank to your home wireless network.
