Im learning to use Reaper and had to use the render tracks feature and then just import the rendered tracks to my current main DAW. I use Tracktion as my current main DAW and bought both PT10 and Reaper. The learning curve of PT and Reaper is taking a while. Tracktion is just so damn easy to use, I get frustrated with the others many menus to navigate !!! So I renderd and imported all the tracks into Tracktion I couldnt find a damn "export tracks" either !!! I did buy "Groove 3's "Reaper 4 and PT10 Explained" videos, they should get me up to speed. But you probable figured out a work around already

5. Select the required output format and other options as required, but be sure to include the option Time selection from the Render Bounds drop down list.. 6. When you are ready, click the Render 1 file ... button in this dialog box to create your rendered file.

A couple of weeks ago, when preparing some material for a workshop, I needed to do just that. Trying to be a good sport and get myself adjusted to using these newfangled computers for production, I started off working in Reaper. Recording was easy, editing was a bit more clumsy, and exporting just the portions I wanted to use took too many steps. My Mackie HDR24/96 has a command that creates a new file from a selected region (and will do it in bulk) which is then available to use elsewhere. Essentially that's what you're doing when you go through the rendering bit. But I figured that if someone thought of that function in such a logical way back in 1999, every DAW would do it that smoothly. I guess not.

That sure sounds simple enough. Why couldn't I find that myself by poking around in Reaper or the documentation? Probably because I didn't know the vocabulary. It's a problem nowadays. He says "Export," She says "Render as a new take."

Another thing to watch for is Mac guys who never adapt to right-clicking stuff... if in doubt, look in the contextual menu! I just had to do tech support for a buddy over the phone who was trying to double-click stuff on a Windows machine... LOL.

Oh, and learn all your modifier keys! This goes for any DAW. It's incredibly painful watching people trying to work in ProTools without using the modifiers or hotkeys. In this case with Reaper you can render, drag, and drop clips right into the OS in one motion... just as long as you know the modifiers.

As far as Mac guys and R-clicking, are there actually users that don't know or adapt to R-clicking? This is a serious question. I've been doing this ever since using a Mac, beginning in 2000, so I just assumed that everyone right-clicks. Sure is useful.

I know in Pro Tools, you just simply select the clip and then export it. You can do this either by selecting the clip on the edit page or by selecting the name of the clip in the clip region and then exporting it. Quite easy. I don't know if you can drag it over to a folder, though. Maybe I'll try that some time!!!!

You can do that in Reaper too - you can right click a single item and select "Render as new take" or you can select any group of items or tracks and either ctrl-alt-drag them to a folder or select File->Render.

Actually this is one of those rare cases where I think the Jargonauts have improved the terminology. "Rendering" video is where you basically take the raw, preview footage and make it a "real" video that folds in all the edits you've made, thus creating a final version of the original file.

hi my bands recorded in reaper (latest version) on pc, and i will edit it on my own pc in cubase (again latest version). no OMF stuff going on in reaper by the looks of it im looking for a free way of doing this.

It is important to save at the start of your project, and multiple times as you are working on it. This section will go over how to do that, as well as how to export audio files when your project is complete. It is also important to remember the difference between a REAPER project and an audio file: a REAPER project can only be opened with REAPER.

Tip: If you will do further editing on your project, save it as a WAV file, as every time it is compressed it loses audio quality. When you are finished all editing, you can render it as an MP3 if a smaller file is desired.

Many thanks to John Lundsten from the UK for the idea of this project, for his tireless efforts testing the application and for his insight as well as the user guide. Thanks also to Adrian Connelly for additional programming efforts and the interface and also dstDean from this forum for additional testing and encouragement.

Those who have supported me in the past (as at the time of this post) through donating for any of my previous applications are entitled to $50usd off the price for every application they have donated to me in the past. For some that equals a free copy! Never let it be said that I don't appreciate your support!

There are many other DAWS in our sights and significant work has already been completed interfacing to Reaper project files and OpenTL files. These will appear in a free upgrade in the not too distant future.

So I have put a version 1.01 up on the site but don't go rushing to download it unless you use Nuendo as there will be another update to add Reaper project files very, very shortly.
Also included is a fix for a minor problem importing some video clips but again it shouldn't be a problem for most.

John Lundsten (and one or two others Lawrence, Dean etc) have been spending literally hundreds of hours testing the latest beta versions of AATranslator. In particular the Steinberg XML functions and the many variations & combinations possible with a Steinberg Track archive.

They have tested using every version of Cubase & also Nuendo 2, 3 & 4, but while we think we have covered everything (that we had in our scope) no doubt there may something we have missed mainly because we were unable to test using Nuendo v1 or v5. So if you buy AATranslator & there are any problems understanding Nuendo vers 1 or 5 files, we will endeavour to fix em.

Append:
Will add 2 Audition XML files together. You access this via the "File" menu. Yes it's just AA XML and why not? The Audition session format is very fully featured so a good no compromise append to any of the other supported formats can be done by going via AA XML.

As well as the special Reaper EDL compatibility option we had before you can now save to Samplitude v1.5 to be compatible with all the app's that haven't kept up to date with the later V1.6 & 1.7 Samplitude EDL formats.

The truth is standards are very loosely interpreted by many (probably most) software developers, we have worked hard to understand most variations that are around re Import and then Export in as standardised format as possible.
That in itself can be regarded as a "clean-up" function. Plus on export having options to be compatible to some specific known Export forms/variations/deviation/mistakes (?) And there is filtering of data available too.

The major problem with taking a session back to 1.5 is that there is a load of stuff that you might have used in 3.0 that simply isn't in it. So apart from clip timing perhaps, you might just as well start over with a new session and the raw files, for all the extra work you will have to do anyway.

But to clarify if I was to write an export to AA1.5 (which is not that hard) it would certainly not be for the purpose of encouraging the use of AA1.5 but rather for those needing to specifically convert from other DAWs to AA1.5.

It is clear that our abilities lay in analysis, design, programming & testing and not marketing or sales.
We think that AATranslator is a pretty good program. Sure its not perfect very few are (except maybe MediaSweeper) and for sure things are tough out there yet we still want everyone to be able to experience this application.
So before we move too much further down the ProTools conversion path and in the spirit of 'give a bit get a bit' we have decided to drop the price to $39USD!

It's probably only fair to let everyone know that with the PT release there may be a small price rise (still much cheaper than the opposition products of $800 & $500). Existing purchases at the time of release will naturally receive the upgrade for free.

Now that I think about it... You could actually integrate this into Audition through the use of SES reader/writer plug-ins. You could then use AATranslator for other applications or just simply use Audition to import/export into the correct format...

But Audacity is a multitask editor - so what is supposed to happen when the user imports a second, or even more, audio files all from different folder locations - use cases may be:
a) User exports whole project - so which of the locations does that export to?
b) User selects a track and exports it - Audacity would have to remember the origin location of the track.
c) Export Multiple using tracks - Audacity would have to remember the origin location of all the tracks to facilitate the export.

Even with a single track use case there can be complications:
d) user imports one track, edits it, makes a selection from within the track and exports - so does that overwrite the pre-existing audio file that was used for the import.

As stated, completely dumbfounded why this is happening during export, listening back to the WAV (44/24). I have a fairly well built i7 computer with 32 GB RAM, all SSD equipped, RME UCX interface with the latest drivers, no internet, AV or any other processes disturbing things. Now trying to export a finished, mixed and mastered progrock-tune only containing roughly 75 tracks, and the computer/RAM or HD isn't sweating. Chirps still random on the export.

Interesting, inasmuch as I have not had this problem in CbB but I have had it crop up in Reaper. Slightly different, though. The clicks, pops and crackles were recorded along with random parts. So, it was not just the playback, it was baked into the wave when recording. In that case (Reaper), I turned off the ReaVerb convo plugin during tracking... enabled it for mixing and rendering...and it cleaned right up. Reaper also has settings in Options>Preferences>Buffering that you can mess with. Surprisingly, I found suggestions that some of the buffer settings yield better results at lower-than-default buffer values. Anyways, not relevant to CbB but when someone said they were thinking of switching to Reaper, it made me chuckle.
