I just went through this last night. I had tagged half a dozen movies to watch, but when I went to watch them, none of them would play. When I click "HOW TO WATCH" it says you can buy, rent, or subscribe. I do subscribe, so what's the problem?
I subscribed to Apple TV because I wanted to finish watching the The Expanse. Like most of you I found out that post season 2, they're going to charge me $2.33 for each episode. In the 90's I was an enthusiastic Apple guy. Not any more. Apple's got a rotten core now.
As an avid iOS user. The pricing model for Apple TV is the worse of its kind. There is no value for money in subscription to this. Will in the future advise all and anyone from being ripped off. Rather spend your hard earned dollar on Netflix or prime. Period.
This is complete BS. It is not OK to charge a lot of money for a subscription and then to charge huge sums in addition to that for your content. I know you are trying to justify this but it does not wash.
There is no double charging. The Apple TV app hosts more content than just the Apple TV+ subscription catalog. The subscription is not for the app (the app itself is free), but for access to the Apple Originals a.k.a Apple TV+ catalog. Buying or renting movies or TV shows is separate from the subscription. One does not require the other. See Apple TV+ as an in-app subscription channel.
The subscription is only for "Apple TV +" content except when Apple offers subscribers limited-time to watch movies that are normally not part of the subscription. Such as the 50 limited-time to watch movies that are available now for March & April 2024
Your Apple TV subscription only includes original Apple content. That's it. Nothing else. If you want content that comes from some other outlet, you need to buy it. It's just like if you subscribe to the New York Times, you don't get the books from the New York Times Bestseller list for free.
I have used Prime, Paramount+, Hulu and so far Apple TV+ offers far better quality content than any of those other services. I don't consider old TV shows found on those other apps a reason to pay more for a service just to claim they have more content.
You are given a free trial when you sign up to Apple TV+ for the first time to give you the opportunity to see if you like the content and if you don't, then just cancel and move on with your day. It's not that difficult and everyone is perfectly capable of deciding for themselves.
The biggest bone of contention between Amazon Prime and Netflix has been the size of the content library. Amazon Prime has a smaller library of available titles, but tends to offers more of the latest movies and TV shows for instant watching. Netflix, on the other hand only offers TV shows and movies that are over a year old (with the exception of Netflix's own productions), but has a much larger library of shows and movies than Amazon.
Amazon has invested in building the Prime Video library as the biggest any streaming service has to offer. With over 17,000 movies on Amazon compared with less than 4,000 movies on Netflix, it is not likely that Netflix will ever be able to catch up with the sheer size of the Amazon movie library.
On Jan 28, 2019, Streaming Observer reported that despite a shrinking movie library, Netflix continues to have more movies that are "Certified Fresh" by review site Rotten Tomatoes compared with Amazon Prime and HBO Now.
The only major device that does not support Amazon Video but does support Netflix is Chromecast. Netflix supports Chromecast from all its iOS and Android apps but Amazon Video does not. Netflix also has a native app for Apple TV but Amazon does not. Amazon Video apps on iOS do support streaming to Apple TV. So if you have an Apple TV you can stream Netflix without any other devices. But to use Amazon Video on Apple TV you will need an iPhone, iPad or iPod.

In December 2016, Netflix began allowing downloads of a limited number of videos for offline viewing. In the beginning, only Netflix original series were allowed to be downloaded. Netflix has said it is working on making a majority of the content available on its platform available for download.
Closed caption compatibility is available for a number of Amazon Instant Video devices, including the Amazon.com website for PCs and Macs, the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, the iPad, the iPhone, the PlayStation PS3 and PS4, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Roku, Wii, Google TV, and for Samsung and LG 2012 or later models.

Even though both services have similar-sized potential audience, Netflix accounts for a much larger share of time spent. Amazon Prime appears to offer more cost savings, if it is acceptable to pay up front for one year. Prime membership further offers the free shipping, free Kindle content and more possible deals given all Amazon online shopping options. Netflix as well as Prime present attractive catalogs. However, the Netflix catalog can change quite frequently, and without notice, for movies and television series might be available one day and get pulled the next.
Netflix's monthly fee offers flexibility to join, stop the service, and re-join if it is desired. Netflix at this time has a larger archive compared with Prime. Prime is expanding its content selection constantly, and over time may lessen this difference.
Both Disney+ and Netflix are top-tier streaming services, but if you have to choose only one, you should stick with Netflix for now. It costs more, but it also offers a significantly larger content library and a wider variety of movies and TV shows.

Some Netflix packages cost less per month than Disney+, and Netflix also gives you a larger library and more variety of content. Netflix lets you jump from true crime documentaries like Abducted in Plain Sight to feel-good reality TV like The Great British Baking Show. Then you can jump to an action-packed drama like The Witcher or a stand-up comedy special like Iliza Shlesinger: Elder Millennial.
That model was all fine and good when there was limited competition. Now that everyone has jumped into the on-demand video streaming game, things are a little more complicated. For example, Netflix lost the ever-popular Friends at the beginning of 2020 to Max.
For a short, beautiful time, Disney and Netflix worked together. And the consequences of that brief collaborative effort are still evident. There will still be some Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars movies on Netflix through mid-2020.
Netflix has a lot more rules about downloads. You can have a max of 100 downloads per device on up to four mobile devices. And there are some extra restrictions on certain types of content, depending on the licensing agreement Netflix has with the company that owns the IP (intellectual property):
Both streaming services open to a home screen with several sliding bars full of ready-to-watch content, recommended based on your viewing history. And finding something to watch on either service is easy and intuitive.
Disney+ does not (and will not) have R-rated content. The platform is dedicated to keeping its content library family-friendly. All of the movies on Disney+ are rated PG-13 and below, and all TV shows are rated TV-14 and below.
When you cancel Netflix, you can continue to watch until the end of your current billing period. And Netflix keeps your viewing data for 10 months after you close your account, so you can resume your subscription with your algorithm intact if you sign up again within that time.
When you cancel, you still have access to Disney+ shows and movies until the end of your billing cycle (or the end of your free trial). After that, Disney+ keeps your account information on file in case you want to come back.
