Beautifully sampled solo strings with character, detail and playability
A huge amount of playable articulations and rhythmical performances that are uniform across all instruments
Incredible natural vibrato
Expressive legato
Aside from one of the performances, there is no spiccato or staccato yet the martel, coll and volante cover these shorts perfectly. The ricochet bowing is a welcome touch and for expressive solo playing, you certainly do not miss spiccato or staccato. For a more natural feel, these shorts coupled with performed trills are wonderful.
In summary, the Studio Quartet Series is a wonderful set of instruments and represent excellent value for money. They sit beautifully on top of the mix and will easily be the highlight of any composition. The lack of microphone positions did not cause me any issue as they are recorded exceptionally dry yet maintain the stunning room sound. I can see these blending effortlessly with other libraries. This collection comes highly recommended for any composer who wishes to add extraordinary detail to your string lines.

8DIO Productions has released Studio Solo Violin, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt, featuring a massive collection of over 4,000 phrases performed by renowned concert violinist Thomas Yee.
The intention of the library was to sample completely realistic solo violin by creating an incredible collection of musical phrases. We programmed the library in a way that gives you maximum control over the phrases and literally allows you to sculpt 100% realistic solo violin performances. It was deliberately designed to support, augment and in some cases replace existing solo violin libraries.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend one of the strings plugins that would be best for getting a sound like in Aspidistrafly's Landscape With A Fairy, specifically at 2:35? (Sorry, I can't share links yet)
I was thinking the Session Strings 2 would be good, but the Stradivari Violin would sound more intimate as a solo violin without the ensemble. Can the Stradivari harmonise with itself alone to get this sound, or should I get an ensemble like the Session Strings? Would love to get the Cremona Quartet but was looking for a more affordable option, lol!
Hey, sorry for my late response! I haven't downloaded Studio Reverb yet. To be honest, I don't have a violin plugin to use yet so I'm actively comparing which ones to buy. I'm familiar with effects and mixing so wasn't too worried about reverb now, but rather if I should buy a solo violin or an ensemble plugin instead to make songs like the one I mentioned.
Violins and the sort or really difficult to do on a keyboard. I'd look for something the emphasizes the attack of the strings on harder key velocities. Most of the junk out there takes a single sample of a violin stroke and changes the its volume. That gets old fast. Look for something that uses keys on the keyboard to select different types of strokes but make no sound when pressed. The when you press a key in the register of the violin it makes a sound which could be pizzicato or legato, etc. There's a term for the special keys that select different playing styles but I can't remember it. Sorry...
