I've had the problem for at least a couple years and I've narrowed it down to a single account. I consistently get the "failed to download the attachment. Please try again." error, or if I try to click the actual download button, I'll have a notification pop-up for about a second before going away like it never existed. It only happens for one gmail account though, of course it had to be my main account. Are there some settings that I should mess with or something to fix this? I've tried everything I could find online and it's insanely frustrating that this is still a problem.
There is not necessarily a file extension on content:// Uri values pointing to files. AFAIK, Gmail does not include a file extension on theirs, and so it will not match your pathPattern. Also, host is missing the android: namespace prefix.
If the email will be sent with a distinct MIME type for your file, use that in android:mimeType and drop the remaining attributes. If the email will not be sent with a distinct MIME type for your file, then AFAIK you are out of luck.
Something interesting that I discovered while typing up this post; when using the file explorer for adding an attachment in the gmail app, the Android/data directory is not an option! It shows up when you are using the file explorer outside of the gmail app though. So I'm thinking this may be a permissions problem then? It cannot access this folder. If that's the case, what would be a recommended location to store this file? Ideally it would be some sort of cache location or temporary file location in this instance.
When I try to add an attachment from dropbox to a mail in gmail, I receive a message in gmail "can not upload the file". This error occurs only on one smartphone with android 12. If I do the same , with the same dropbox and google account, on an other android phone (android 11 )or an android tablet, there is no problem. Both phones have the same app version of gmail
Suddenly I cannot attached Dropbox files to my emails. I create the email from Gmail, click the paperclips and choose my file from dropbox. It seems to attach and then disappears and says "Couldn't attach file". Same thing happen from my android phone or my desktop computer. I can share the file from within Dropbox to gmail however
I can't download attachments in my primary Gmail account (the same one in use for android) using the Gmail app. When I tap the download icon, either nothing happens or I get a message saying that the attachment failed to download and to try again later.
I have also uninstalled the update for Gmail, then reinstalled it. Mimicked settings for Gmail just like my old phone (a Motorola) and it still will not download attachments. Yet, when I added my Gmail account to the Microsoft Outlook app, I am able to download attachments from my Gmail account.
so if you download the Gmail app itself and use that are you able to add attachments again? if yes then the issue is between Outlook and Gmail with compatibility. best bet for this would be to contact the Outlook devs to see what is going on and if there is a fix or work around fix for it.
Hello all, I just purchased a Revvl 6 Pro 5G this past Sunday and I'm having the same issue, I can't download any email attachments in the Gmail app. I used my Google one membership to contact Google technical support and the tech support specialist walked me through about 10 troubleshooting options and we were unable to correct the issue. Ultimately the tech support specialist referred me to T-Mobile (since they are the manufacturer) to speak with their software mobility department as we discovered that this particular phone model does not have a download manager app installed as a part of the stock firmware. This should be an easy fix if T-Mobile creates creates a patch and sends it as an update to all Revvl 6 Pro 5G device owners. I'm anxious to get this issue resolved. I hope T-Mobile will do something about this issue.
Same problem. Just received 2 REVVL 6 Pro 5G phones for my wife and me. Neither phone can download attachments from Gmail. Have tried all fixes with Gmail and no success. Very disappointed with TMobile. All other Android phones we have owned never had this issue with Gmail and downloading attachments. Looking for solution!!

Spent hours with Tech people and found a work around. Use the OUTLOOK APP. IN OUTLOOK, where you can add OTHER emails, add G MAIL.. G MAIL will then work through OUTLOOK. You will be able to open attachments and attach items to send using OUTLOOK. Tech for T Mobil said they have no idea when Google will get their sh.. together to program their system to work with Revvel 6 and 6 pro
I am using Jelly Bean on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. I have been trying to download an attachment from the GMail app. All I see is a progress bar which shows 0% progress and an icon added in the notification area. The download does not proceed beyond 0%. I restarted the tablet and the icon is back! But the download stays at 0% and does not progress.
Similarly to my previous comments, no known exploits was ever found as far as I am aware in gmail preview feature but you can disable the preview feature from settings. This is a good practice to avoid miss clicking malicious links etc.
Firstly don't get worry if any key logger would be attached it will stop working if you not rooted android device and if you have any query you can scan it on www.virustotal.com ,upload your docx file and scan it. This will definitely help you.
However, downloading attachments works fine on two other Gmail accounts (technically work Gsuite accounts) within the same app. It's only my primary personal account that fails to download. I've already tried clearing the Gmail app's cache and data to no avail. I'm using a Galaxy Tab S6 running Android 11 on OneUI 3.1. Any help would be appreciated.
After knowing the reasons why Gmail failed to download attachments, you can try the following solutions to fix it. We will divide the content into two parts, one is for the problem on your Android phone, another part is for you can't download attachments on your computer.
Sometimes, when attempting to download email attachments using mobile data, the presence of an active data-saving mode on your phone can potentially stop Gmail's ability to utilize mobile data in the background. Here is how to enable Background Data Usage:
Disabling Gmail Lab (advanced) settings can help identify if any of these experimental features are causing problems with downloading attachments in Gmail. By disabling them, you can revert to the default settings and potentially resolve the issue.
Note that Gmail Lab settings are experimental and may not be fully optimized or compatible with all attachments. Disabling them does not affect the core functionality of Gmail and can help in troubleshooting attachment download problems.
If you still have problems downloading Gmail attachments after trying the above solutions, try the professional cloud file manager - MultCloud, which helps you to download your attachments and documents from Gmail easier. No more wasting time searching for specific emails or struggling with cumbersome manual downloads.
Now Gmail failed to download attachment in Android or on the computer have been solved by yourself. Just find the above solutions separately for Android or computer to fix. Or you have another easy way to download Gmail emails with all attachments to a hard drive without downloading them one by one.
Hoping you can help as this has stumped me. I wish to move a email attachment of a csv from an email received which has multiple attachments to my Google Drive. The email usually contains one csv and at least one image.
I have tried multiple examples of the email as it is sent daily to me. All show the attachment in the email data as below but the CSV is not selectable within attachment details mime type only the PNG file.
Understand its dynamic but Zapier in this case is not recognising all the attachments for every email i have been sent from this particular source. Will go back to source and ask for the email to be sent as text only with attachment and see if this solves the issue, as i suspect it will and will note the outcome here.
Yes, understood. The problem i have is that the dynamic filter condition of text/csv is not available, despite the file being attached to the email and trying multiple versions of the email. It is always a png file in this case. So if Zapier isnt able to pick the attachment up, i will need to either change the way the email is being sent to me or engage Zapier in solving the issue which i appreciate is unlikely.
Hey @PJW99! I just wanted to check in and see if you were able to get your zap working correctly? ? It seems like you and Troy were pretty close on figuring out a solution using the current setup from your email source instead of having to have information sent to you differently, which seems like it would be the most ideal! To build off of what Troy mentioned above, if the zap trigger only pulls up the 3 most recent examples, that could explain why your attachment might have been missing when you went to set it up as test data. Were you able to turn the zap on to test it??
