The trailer for Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods is now online. It didn't take long for the iconic director to line up his next project after 2018's BlacKkKlansman; even before he won an Oscar for co-writing that film, it was reported he'd be teaming up with Netflix on Da 5 Bloods. The film follows a group of African-American Vietnam War veterans who return to the country years later to find the remains of their fallen leader and the treasure buried close by. Like most of Lee's movies, Da 5 Bloods looks to deliver more of his trademark social commentary, detailing black soldiers' experiences in the Vietnam War and the current political landscape on top of its genre elements.

It was recently announced Da 5 Bloods would premiere on Netflix in June (which is shaping up to be a busy month for new streaming movies), so the marketing campaign go underway with the release of new still images showing Lee and his cast. Now, with a little under a month until Da 5 Bloods debuts, cinephiles are treated to some footage so they can see what Lee and company have in store.

The Vietnam War is one of the most depicted historical eras in film, to the point where it's its own sub-genre that's ripe for parody. Some might feel Vietnam's played out by now, but there haven't been many mainstream Vietnam movies featuring this approach and perspective. Lee frequently likes to push the envelope and has something strong to say in his work, using his platform to tell fascinating narratives from his unique point of view. It should be interesting to see what he does with this material, and Da 5 Bloods is poised to be one of the biggest Netflix releases this year.
