Thank you for your question! At this time, monday.com does not have the ability to sync Gmail contacts directly to a board. Currently the way to accomplish this is through an import from Excel. We appreciate the feedback - and I have made sure to raise this need to our development team.
If you wanted to take notes there, you could use a file you hosted in Google Drive, Dropbox, or a similar platform to take notes directly in monday.com. What do you think? You can access it by going to where you would add a new board view, in the upper lefthand corner of your board.
We normally suggest this for people who are working in monday.com but may not being building elements or that are PMs. It will reduce the email notifications but if you look at the very bottom of your profile there are separate notifications for when you are on the monday.com platform. Those we suggest to keep more of if you are actively in the platform.

Our experience exploring monday.com was positive. The interface is intuitive; it has clear labels, built-in tutorials, interactive hover text and an adjustable theme from light to dark. While there are many features and dropdown menus to go through, it gets easier with time.
In addition, the critical data is backed up (Figure E) every five minutes for an added layer of security. And the experienced technical team at monday.com ensures the site remains up and running even with all of the maintenance work in the background.

Startups, students, nonprofits and individuals can benefit from using the free plan to manage projects. Larger and established teams will enjoy the abundance of features such as automation and reporting in higher tiers.

Ease of use is a big thing, and monday.com pm software feels very intuitive and easy compared to ClickUp. However, ClickUp has a huge array of key features to make managing projects much easier, whereas monday.com has less.
