I have my cpc soon my running is no issue hitting 1.5 mile return in 9:45 so looking about average but my bleep test is lacking severely hitting level 10.3 and then id be out. Any advice on how to improve my score at the minute im below the minimum of 11.5?
Along with the 1.5mile run, the bleep test is the only other running only part of the PRMC that you can specifically train for. The assault course and endurance course is just a case of training both endurance and stamina in the round. But for the 1.5miler and the bleep test, you know what is coming and you test and measure yourself so you KNOW what time/score you are capable of getting.
Recruits must pass the main Potential Royal Marine Course, or PRMC. The course lasts three days and includes written and verbal exams. However, the focus is on many physical fitness tests. For example, potential recruits must run as a squad for 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes, 30 seconds. You will also have to reach level 11 in the bleep test. The bleep test measures your stamina by forcing you to run between two points that are just under 66 feet apart in increasingly short times. Level 11 means running at approximately 8.5 miles per hour between the two points.
The next hurdle was the mid-week RMFA. Starting with the lung bursting bleep test followed immediately by maximum effort for press-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups. All recruits had done these fitness assessments on PRMC and in week 1 of training so there was plenty of pressure to to show the PTIs that we had improved. No major dramas here, with a few recruits highlighting themselves for potential PT Superior.
I use the bleep test to measure how much I've improved since school. I was fairly happy with my 6.2 and being only the fourth person to drop out rather than the first! Recently I recorded a supposed 15.7. The best ever recorded at my Uni is 16.9 so I guess that's the next target!
The bleep test is more relevant to sports like football than running. In running, you generally lock into a pace and try and keep that for the whole race, give or take a little overtaking here and there.
It's hard to judge what level would be a fair entry though, as the lower levels of the bleep test are basically walking, and for me..it's level 10 when it starts getting interesting. But that's me, a keen runner just about still in my 20s! Non runners would surely struggle!
