Thisis a friendly reminder that all GCPS student passwords will be reset to their student IDs (please note students also call these IDs their lunch numbers) on July 21, 2019. Information sent from the county is presented below.

Please click on link here to access step by step directions. Information is also on our website under the Announcement. Please remember if links are not displaying correctly on your device, then please view email blast in a web browser and not the email account.

I would like it to be web-based for students and staff to access and reset account passwords via a web-browser from any device. I have used tools like Wisesoft password control for teachers before. The self-management/challenge questions are not a major consideration.

The main thrust is to be able to give teachers the ability to change a students password when needed, and the student to reset it without having to log into a domain joined computer. We have a heavy mix of BYOD and chromebooks. However ALL passwords sync from AD to our various services so the student needs to be able to easily reset their password.

I can easily spin up a VM to host the application/software. I have a BYOD network on its own vLan with a firewall rule to deny access to internal networks, that I can easily counter-act for this specific server. The service will need to be accessed by our internal network and BYOD guest network.

I have considered writing my own powershell script and using PS-studio to convert the script into an EXE for the teacher machines, but that still requires the student to login to a domain joined computer (and I am having fewer and fewer of those around). I can work my way around Powershell for what I need to do, but have no real programming experience outside of that.

The Linux Toolbox Project has a perfect tool for this, which I use in a few districts I support. It can be easily set up within a couple hours if you have Linux and Apache experience. All at the sweet, sweet price of open source.
