I know QuickZip Lite is recommended when questions are asked about
QuickZip v 4.60; but I'm really curious if v4.60 can actually create
self-extracting files. The developer kindly responded to my earlier
inquiry, but I found the info he provided to be inaccurate.

If anyone has genuinely succeeded in creating a *.exe file with
"Quick"-Zip v4.60 and possesses the ability to commmunicate technical
information, I would be thrilled to learn the steps. After playing
with the app for an hour, I find logic utterly useless when attempting
to create such a file. Wow...the procedure would provide a formidable
challenge to the folks at Mensa. I have a Ph.D. and am no match for
QuickZip's challenge to create a sfx archive.

PS: Below is an example of how I believe "Help" files ought to be
constructed.

COMPRESS FILE(S)/FOLDER(S) WITH PASSWORD

NOTE: You may compress a mix of files and
folders, including subfolders and
subfolders of subfolders.

1. Launch Windows Explorer > highlight files
you wish to compress (hold down "Shift key"
and run cursor over your selection, or
hold down "Ctrl" key and click on individual
files) > then let go of the key held down.
2. Right-click on highlighted files.
3. Select "QuickZip" in shell menu > Add with
password > type in a password > OK (file
will be saved in same directory).
4. Rename the .zip file if desired.

==========
PACK AND DATE

NOTE: "Pack and date" method compresses
only one file."

1. Right-click on the file you wish to pack
(compress) and date > QuickZip > Pack and date
(file will be saved in same directory).
2. Close QuickZip window.
3. Rename the compressed and dated file if
desired. For example, rename "File_12072007"
as "File_12-7-07."

==========
CLEAR MRU LIST IN SHELL

1. Open QuickZip > Tools > Settings > Preference.
2. MRU > Clear List > Yes > OK.

Greetings

Create SFX is in my TO-DO list of Quick Zip Lite, I delayed it because
it is quite time consuming to complete it. As this feature is
requested I have started working on this feature.

To create a SFX using Quick Zip 4.60, you should create a zip file (or
other archive) first, open the zip file, then click "Actions \ More
functions \ Create SFX...", specify the options and click "Create". I
havent completed the SFX code for Quick Zip Lite 3, but when it's
completed, it can be accessed by using "File \ Save as...", then
specify an exe file.

Your help file sample is quite good, I will use it when I create the
new help file.

Thanks Joseph...I'll give the steps a try.

My preference is to use the shell menu, but may I suggest that you
also consider a drag-and-drop option in the future? In such instance,
the user could simply drop from Explorer whatever is wanted into a
package to be compressed. Sweet! The old but still excellent
ZipCentral has this very handy feature, but QuickZip beats them all
with the available automatic antivirus scan before extraction. I think
everybody finds it tedious to manually scan a compressed file before
extraction (or forgets to do so), so the auto antiviral scan makes
QuickZip a killer app!

Unless you are affiliated with Clam, you may want to let your users
know that making AVG7 work with QuickZip requires a simple text edit
of the incorrect command line that is automatically assigned when
opting for an external scanner. The command line for AVG7 should be as
follows:

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe

By the way, I have yet to see anyone in the computing industry use the
term 'virus' correctly. Amazing! Virus is plural for viron. One cannot
have a PC infected by one "virus"; that would be like saying, "I have
one computers." But everyone understands: I guess such things make
ecclectic (and bastardized) English so marvellous.
