to QuickPALM
Hello everyone,

I am very happy to announce that the download counter on the QuickPALM site is nearing the 100th download of the plugin, we have had more than 50 downloads on the first 24 hours since the QuickPALM Nature Methods paper was released.

The enthusiasm of the research community around our work will be a great drive for the future development. I would like to personally invite each user to have a beer and commemorate with us but unfortunately it is a bit too difficult. Instead I hope to give a small replacement for a good cold Heineken - the release of the new version :).

What can you expect in the new QuickPALM 1.1b1:
  - snapshot of the most recent code in our source repository
  - several minor bug fixes (a big thanks goes out to Arthur and Nico from the uManager development team for multiple code patches)
  - speed improvements on the online rendering
  - fixed problems that prevented QuickPALM from compiling and running in Java 1.5 (e.g. Mac OS X 10.5)

Note - this is a beta release and you may find some small bugs (if you do, please let us know), the beta version number will increase until no more major issues are found and at that time I will release the final 1.1 stable version.

In conjunction with this version I'm also releasing a new plugin for ImageJ - Py4IJ (http://code.google.com/p/py4ij/) - an easy interface and development environment for Jython within ImageJ. On future versions of QuickPALM you can expect to see both plugins interacting greatly. Our base particle detection algorithm is also starting to evolve and we have plans to unveil some nice new features involving JCuda - an engine that allows future versions of the algorithm to be accelerated greatly by graphics cards and to increase molecule localization accuracy (or in other words, the reconstruction resolution).

I leave you with some screenshots of the QuickPALM page worldwide visiting statistics given by "google analytics" that monitors our site, the site has had more than 500 visits since the paper release. Aside from the worldwide view, I have also put a screenshot of the top viewing countries: USA, France and Germany.

Best regards,
Ricardo Henriques
