5) A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR
(This comes to us from Anthony Salafia, Church Chair)

Our pastoral search committee meets with our transition
coach Alan Forsman from the Pacific SouthWest Conference
tomorrow night to begin the review process of pastoral
candidates. Pray for safety in travel for Alan and
discernment for the search committee.

Our church council also meets tomorrow night. We will have
5 new council members that we welcomed at our
congregational meeting a couple of weeks ago (Chuck
Johnson, Lois Wilson, Alan McCord, Katy Dockter, and Ann
McNulty). Katy Dockter has just returned from the Journey
To Mosaic trip. This is an outstanding program that our
conference puts on to help reach across cultural and racial
barriers in our society. Be sure to ask Katy about her
experience.
Please come alongside our council. Make yourselves
available to help them on their committees. Your support is
vital to our church health.

In His Service,
Anthony Salafia

4) A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR

(This comes to us from Anthony Salafia, Church Chair)

Two weeks ago I joined the Jr. High youth group as they
served dinner at the Modesto Gospel Mission. We had 10
youth and 3 adults, a huge difference from last summer when
my daughter Hannah and I drove up to tell the mission that
Cornerstone needed to go off the rotation due to a sharp
decrease in participation. It was great to hear about the
“LOCIN @ the ROC” (a trip to FunWorks in Modesto and a
sleepover with 19 youth and 4 adults) at Cornerstone last
weekend, as well as the numerous upcoming events including
a 5 day camping trip this summer. Our youth program is
definitely growing and going in the right direction.

Last Wednesday we had a strong turnout of 21 people at our
worship team meeting. We had a chance to discuss our needs
and concerns during this season of transition. I was
pleased to hear the open discussion. This was a
constructive meeting that allowed for identification as to
how and where we can make the best use of our gifts and
talents in worship leadership.

Ministries such as worship and youth require strong,
gifted, and devoted staff as well as lay leadership. Greg
Oppenhuizen has proved his excellent leadership qualities
in our youth program as well as in our worship services
during the 7 months he has been with Cornerstone. With
Pastor Sean Curtis moving on in 3 months and Jeremy Curtis
leaving for graduate school, Pastor Greg’s leadership will
be of even more tremendous importance. Our congregation
needs to take the step of faith with our finances in order
to retain the services of Pastor Greg on a permanent, full
time basis. We are blessed with a rare talent in Pastor
Greg and need to show the Oppenhuizen family in a tangible
way that we value them and their service.

In His Service,
Anthony Salafia

7) DOING CHURCH 2007 CONFERENCE
(This comes to us from Dhyan Gilton, Outreach Chair)

Plan now to join our group from Cornerstone at this
exciting two-day conference, May 11-12 in Walnut Creek, as
we discover how to energize our faith in the real world!

What is DC7 all about?
Doing church isn't easy in the 21st Century. We struggle to
thrive in such a place and time and are tempted to retreat
into safe seclusion and irrelevance....

But the Head of the Church won't let us. His plan,
conceived in eternity, and operational over two millennia
calls for renewal and redemptive involvement in our
neighborhoods, our communities, our world.

It's time for our faith to become dynamic, active and
applied 24/7. This radical, powerful and biblical way of
living will send us beyond the walls of what we call
"church" and out into the world as we live this Everyday
Faith.

We will be registering as a group to receive a discounted
rate. See the Dockters or Giltons for details. For more
information about this conference go to:
www.renewalproject.org
