Tshwane Agri-tourism Project holds Basic Sciences Exhibition at Tswaing Meteorite Crater, 28 – 29 Oct

In line with observing the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD 2022) as declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Tshwane Basic Sciences Exhibition and Book Picnic will provide a space for Tshwane North local organisations, schools, inventors, government and leading science institutions to respond to the needs of humankind by providing access to information and increasing societal well-being, through improved collaboration toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Tshwane Basic Sciences Exhibition and Book Picnic will be held at the Tswaing Meteorite Crater in Soshanguve from 28 to 29 October 2022.

The event is organised by the Tshwane Agri-tourism Project (TAP) in collaboration with the Ditsong Museums of South Africa, the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), the Wildlife Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) and the City of Tshwane Environmental and Agricultural Management Department. The exhibitions will be made up of all the main event stakeholders and their associates.

The purpose of the event is to educate learners and the community about using basic sciences to address daily challenges, mainly food security, innovation and energy planning.

The Tshwane Basic Sciences Exhibition and Book Picnic is a great way to bring science to life for learners. Learners will attend a variety of activities and outdoor entertainment that will be hosted by science bodies, academic institutions and practitioners with a focus on environmental and agricultural sciences. Learners and all attendees will also have an opportunity to go on a guided tour of the Tswaing Meteorite Crater.

The event will take place over a two-day period. Friday, 28 October 2022 will be dedicated to schools (Grade 6 – 10) and Saturday, 29 October 2022 will be a family fun-day filled with edutainment under a picnic themed setting.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will go towards the Tshwane Agri-tourism Project Environment and Agriculture School Programme that has adopted five schools in the Tshwane North region.
