Hi,
I am currently trying to use the QUESO package inside the DAKOTA program, to perform a bayesian calibration of a computer model.
However I always get a message stating: "Bayesian calibration selection not available", and the program stops, without providing further explanations. Therefore I am exploring all the possibile causes of such a problem and I know that here will be rather unlikely to find an aswer, but maybe someone could help me. So, anyone knows whether this issue could be related in some way to the use of the QUESO package together with DAKOTA program? Has anyone had similar problems?
Thanks for your time,
best regards,
Giuseppe Chiapparino

Dear Giuseppe,

Thanks for your interest in QUESO. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the semantics of DAKOTA, you'll have to write the DAKOTA mailing list for assistance there. However, if you have questions about any of the examples or how to use QUESO in a standalone program (apart from DAKOTA), we'll be more than happy to help.

Best,

Paul

Giuseppe,

Information on getting Dakota help, including public mailing list, is available here: https://dakota.sandia.gov/resources.html

The short answer is that QUESO depends on the GSL, which has a GPL license. We only enable LGPL and more permissively licensed features in public binary distributions of Dakota, and therefore don’t enable QUESO. To use QUESO in Dakota public distributions you’ll have to compile Dakota from source: https://dakota.sandia.gov/content/build-compile-source-code and explicitly enable the QUESO feature.

Also, I will add a more helpful error message to Dakota that summarizes what I just wrote. -- Brian
