So like the title states, I've got Zoom installed on my work laptop, but I keep my desktop as icon-free as possible. Every time I delete the Zoom icon however, it's inevitably back on my desktop within a day or two.
I've tried everything I can think of. There's no setting within Zoom I can find to stop auto updates, Zoom isn't a startup app, it's not an icon on the Public or Default desktops, and my laptop isn't being affected by any GPO that would cause icons to reappear.
It's not the most critical issue because I can just delete the icon again, but it is incredibly frustrating seeing it again when I login the day after deleting it..
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I've since found that in my situation, as this is a work laptop, application updates and a forced desktop icon were being pushed from the monitoring/remote assistance system we install on all the computers in the enterprise. Had nothing to do with the Zoom application itself, and as I'm an admin in that system I simply removed my computer from the policy; Problem Solved!
I don't have a solution either. I have the same problem, I think it is due to the zoom x64 installer running at startup every time I boot. I have not found a way to fix the installation running every time I start up my computer.
I have been having the same issue. I have a similar issue with FireFox, and Adobe acrobat. I have complained in similar forums but the DEVs don't listen or seem like they care. I would really appreciate a simple checkbox. that is literally all they would have to do. I would keep it set to update automatically, and I wouldn't have to worry about it since I already "unchecked" the box that indicates a desktop icon. but o well.
I'm an IT Admin for my company and oversee the management and deployment of the Remote Desktop and Monitoring software we use on all of our machines, so I simply removed the Zoom application installation from the startup scripts applied to my specific computer.
On occasion, blue sync icons will appear on files and shortcut links that are located on my Win 10 Desktop. None of the files are related or stored in Dropbox. What is causing this. The only way to remove them is to reboot my machine. Any idea what is causing these sync issue to appear.
I had the same issue on my Win 10 pc. I had recently shared a video in dropbox to a friend and this popped up shortly after. So I assumed it was a drop box thing. I did an F5 (Refresh) on the desktop and they all went back to the Windows "Shortcut" icon on all the files (which explains why you restarting fixed this). So I think something gets messed up in Windows and it has to do with any file that is a shortcut on your desktop. Files native to the desktop folder didn't have this icon or a shortcut icon. Hope this helps!

Not really helpful. Over 100 Apps loaded in background in a Win 10 environment. Really need something I can work with. No one has seen this before? Why would an Icon that is particular to Dropbox show up on my desktop and it not be a DropBox issue. Not saying it is not a Dropbox issue confuses me. Has to be. Who else would want to usurp a Dropbox icon and employ it. Really need some critical thinking from DropBox people.
I guess that was the right thing to do. I ran the wizard and blocked letting the user add a shortcut, then manually added the icon line, and it worked. For those trying this at home, the changes to go from a desktop shortcut prompt to automatically placing it are
Hi Everyone
I'm not sure if this is the right Forum but i'll give it a try
environment:
We're using XA 5.0 Ent on W2k8 R1. Mandatory Profile with Flex Profiles to store several user-settings, Redirected Desktop Folder
problem:
when user loggs off and on again the desktop icons positions are back to standard (all on the left side). I know where this information is stored in the registry, and those registry keys are being saved via Flex Profiles...but it still doesn't work. Maybe explorer.exe is already started before the icon position information is restored.
The funny thing is, on a other farm (same versions of OS, XenApp and Flex Profiles) it works.
So am I the only person who discovered this Problem? As I have not found useful information about this issue anywhere. (Solutions like the infamous layout.dll are not what i am searching for)
Same here, a user reported her desktops icons reset their position every time she logs on. Also she reported some of her shortcuts magically disappeared during the session once.
I understand when you RDP between different monitor resolutions desktop icons will get rearranged/reset. However, in this case it's not RDP and user is on the same monitor/thin client all the time.
Any idea where to start on this?
Do you use any kind of Profile management software (like Flex Profiles, Citrix UPM)?
Back then the problem with flex was that the shell was loaded prior to FlexProfiles writing the settings into registry.
We actually do use UPM + HP Thin Clients with online plugin version 12.x installed.
I have already updated UPM components weeks ago, since it didn't fix the problem we are going to update the Thin Clients to use the latest Citrix Receiver instead of online plugin hoping it will fix the issue.
What I am looking to do is to have a desktop icon for my app that will either launch my app in the Powerapps Studio desktop app, or in a Microsoft Edge window. I know how to make an icon/quick-launcher for mobile apps from the mobile powerapps, but I can't find out how to have the same functionality on Windows desktop.
I've been unable to directly add an app to the desktop (also a common, reoccurring need for me). I do have a workaround for the desktop option (depending on the scenario) and a solution for opening in Edge.
For the desktop shortcut, I Pin the App to the Start Menu, then set Windows to tablet mode. I remove all unnecessary shortcuts from the Start Menu. This works well for systems designated to just run app(s). There are annoyances with running desktop apps in tablet mode, so this may not work for all occasions.
For opening an app in Edge only, you need to create a shortcut with the weblink in the parameter. It appears Edge doesn't easily run from it's executable, so it will work with the Start command. Create a desktop shortcut and paste the following - updating appID with your PowerApps application ID.
But I would love to see the apps own Icons instead of the Power app icon.
P.s. After I posted this I saw that my last two apps stole the same icon as number 3... so not a perfect solution and I would suggest change all icons or none.
I found this option separately and Tibor4's response is a full solution. It will create a desktop (or anywhere) shortcut. We use it to auto-load the app on windows startup. You'd still need to create the ico image but that's not hard to do.
