Ifyou are applying abroad, you must take an English language test in all cases. IELTS is the most famous and widely accepted test that students are usually afraid of. Here are a few tips to help you score 7 plus bands in IELTS.
Practicing speaking before appearing in IELTS is a must. You cannot simply go and speak before the examiner directly. This instruction is for those who generally are able to speak English with their friends or colleagues. You need at least a little bit of practice before the exam. You can start communicating in English with others and watching shows in English. However, if you are not good at speaking at all, you will need proper classes.
If you want to improve your speaking and reading skills, this practice can be very helpful. Read your books or newspapers loudly. It does not necessarily have to be before someone else. Do it in your own room where you do not have anyone else. This will help you with your English speaking and also reading to score well in both of these modules. But this is not a one-week practice. You have to do it regularly for a long time until you start seeing improvement. This will also help you in your overall English communication.
Practice Reading and Listening: Use official IELTS practice materials to familiarize yourself with different question types. Example question: Fill in the blanks with the correct words from the passage.
Before IELTS, you sure need some practice. Reading is the most difficult module among all others in IELTS. You get long passages, complicated questions, and a very limited time to complete this module. You should have a clear idea about all types of questions and how to solve them. There are sometimes questions like finding the right heading for a paragraph, matching the columns, filling the missing words, labeling a picture with the help of a passage, etc. In order to utilize your time the maximum, practice all types of questions beforehand.
Likewise, practice listening tests until you start scoring full marks in them. Listening is easy but it can be tricky sometimes. It sometimes becomes difficult to read all the instructions before the audio starts. You will get an idea about it from the practice tests.
Understand Writing Tasks: Practice writing essays and graph descriptions to improve your writing skills. Example question: Write an essay discussing the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
The questions that come in the writing module can also be tricky sometimes. You have to understand them completely not to get confused. One question is usually an essay and the other one is a picture or graph illustration. The facts and figures have to be taken very precisely and carefully in order to illustrate a diagram or a graph accurately. So, take instructions from online sources or some instructor and practice such tests at least a few times.
If you want to score a 7 in writing, make sure you complete both questions well before time and read them twice. The word in that computer does not work as we use in our computers. So, there will be minute mistakes that if not corrected can take you to a 6 band. Likewise, the reading module is the most difficult to complete on time. Move to the next question if you think the current one is taking a lot of time. But never leave any question unanswered as there is no negative marking.

Our Social Policy and Criminology Joint Honours degree will offer you an exciting opportunity to examine issues which strike at the heart of many contemporary political and media debates. This Joint Honours course combines popular degree subjects that offer complementary insights into a range of social problems and social harms. You will be encouraged to consider the reasons why they are designated as being either 'crimes' or 'social policy' issues and therefore are dealt with through contrasting 'welfare' or 'criminal justice' responses. Students who meet the requisite academic performance criteria will be offered the opportunity to undertake a specialist placement during the second year of their degree programme.
The Social Policy and Criminology Joint Honours is an interdisciplinary programme suitable for students who are currently studying a range of subjects at A-level and who have a particular interest in a wide range of topic areas, such as poverty, homelessness, crime, prisons, drugs and alcohol addiction. Your degree will follow the same programme as the standard degree in Years 1 and 2. However, your third year will be spent abroad at a university in the EU or elsewhere in the world. After completing your year abroad, you will return for your fourth and final year to the same degree programme.
In your first year you will be introduced to degree level social policy and criminology through six core modules. These modules are designed to support the progression to more independent forms of study later in your degree. This year will also introduce you to the basics of research design and methods.
The second year of your degree builds on these foundations by developing your understanding of social policy and criminology. You will also receive more advanced methods training in data analysis which will help prepare you for your final year dissertation.
During your second year you must also apply for a place at an overseas institution. Full information will be provided during your study and you are supported in making this application. Allocation of places for international exchanges is done by the international office (university-wide competition), alongside this there are a number of Erasmus exchange schemes you can consider. The Year Abroad tutor will assist you and be able to offer advice during your studies.
Your third year will be spent abroad at a university in the EU or elsewhere in the world. After completing your year abroad, you will return for your fourth and final year to the same BA degree programme. You will be required to choose from a range of modules provided by the host institution and which must be agreed by the exchange tutor.
There are a wide range of countries and universities from which you can choose. As well as a range of European universities, you may also choose from a range of current institutional partners worldwide. These include countries in which a variety of languages are spoken, including universities at which courses are taught in English. In recent years, students in the department have taken their year abroad in Australia, Canada, Denmark and the United States, among others.
The focus of the final year is your independent, supervised dissertation which brings together your research skills on a project defined by you. Your final year also allows you to specialise in the areas of social policy and criminology that interest you most. Our teaching staff, who are active researchers, run options in their own specialist fields.
If you want to take advantage of a unique opportunity to be supported with a work placement opportunity as part of your final year, this course includes the opportunity to undertake a 'Professional Development' module as part of your optional module choices.
