Then they debited my Via card and emailed me an activation code. However this proved unusable. No matter how I entered (pasted or keyed) the serial number I got "The serial number is invalid" before I ever got to enter the activation code. At one stage I got something about my email domain's MX code was not valid though it worked perfectly before. Since my user id is registered with Corel I cannot change my email address and phone calls leave me hanging on indefinitely.
I inserted the CD which sure enough prompted me to enter the serial number printed on the Cd envelope. This I did, very very carefully (20 years a programmer) and got the old Invalid Serial Number notice. Looking at my entry I noticed that two characters had disappeared. I edited these back in and the installation completed Ok.
The X-numbered editions have been sold in two versions: PaintShop Pro, which is the basic editing program, and PaintShop Pro Ultimate, which bundles in other standalone programs, additional artistic tools and/or plugins. The particular bundled programs have varied with each numbered version and have not been sold by Corel as separate products.
i am using x8. For some reason, yesterday, some of my tools started acting strangely. It's like they lost some of their power or like I've turned the opacity down. The cloning tool is really crazy. Opacity is at 100 percent, but it's just not working right. I sent an email to Corel customer care asking how to do a reinstall on it, because I have no cd. I do have my serial number. Could someone steer me in the right direction? I have to get some work done here.

Looking through the PaintShop settings screens does not show any option that would let us disable the Corel Guide screen. It means we need to find out how to do it ourselves. One thing that I noticed was that the Corel Guide screen did not appear every time I ran the program: it appeared only occasionally, about every 3rd run or so. This was a hint what to look for: apparently, Corel PaintShop keeps a number somewhere that it increments every time it's started. If that number becomes divisible by 3, it's a signal to the program to display the Corel Guide screen. If we could somehow prevent that number from being incremented, we would prevent the screen from being shown. The first question we should answer, though, is where exactly is that number being stored by the program?
