At the 2015 Pokémon World Championships, it was announced that the game would be coming to the Wii U. A demo of the game was available for attendees to play at the tournament.[14] In December 2015, Hori announced that a dedicated arcade controller would be released alongside the game in Japan.[15] The game is known as Pokémon Tekken in Germany and Austria.[16] In April 2016, Nintendo announced that another controller, inspired by Pikachu, would be released in Japan in June.[17] In May 2016, GameStop announced that the Pikachu controller would be released in North America in August of that year in "limited quantities".[18]
On August 21, 2015, a Wii U port of Pokkén Tournament was revealed. The Wii U port was released in Japan, North America, and Europe on March 18, 2016 and in Australia on March 19, 2016, and it features Pikachu Libre, Braixen, Garchomp and Mewtwo as playable characters. The Wii U port works with regular Wii U controllers, as well as the Pokkén Tournament Pro Pad made by HORI. The Pro Pad controllers must be attached by a wired USB connection, and resemble the controllers on the original arcade cabinets. Official tournaments for Pokkén also require the use of the Pro Pad specifically.
Bandai Namco Games, the game's developer, asked for fighter suggestions. Japanese residents could Tweet at @pokken_official with the Pokémon they would like to see using the hashtag #ポッ拳 in order to make a suggestion. Due to having the most requests, Gengar was confirmed as a fighter in April 2015.
I'm used to using my switch pro controller but as I get better at the game I reallise I should get a controller with a good d pad, I was thinking about the hori pokken controller but it only has l/r but not zl/zr, is there a similar controller that has those and a good d pad?
Never played any type of Pokemon or pokken game in my life but liked the look of this until I tried the demo..played for about five minutes and got bored so obviously not my type of game.
Seriously though the scores on this site are waaay too generous on games..
