Industrytopping live-sound audio-technology companies d&b audiotechnik and L-Acoustics have announced a collaborative project to jointly develop a software platform designed to promote development, configuration, and management of Milan AVB networks.
Although d&b audiotechnik and L-Acoustics will lead initial development, the two companies say the project will also actively encourage additional contributors, emphasizing inclusivity and collective industry progress.
Both brands have also made substantial inroads into sports-venue sound. d&b systems are installed at Wembley Stadium, T-Mobile Park, and U.S. Bank Stadium, among others. L-Acoustics PA systems are deployed at State Farm Stadium, Allianz Arena, Amon G. Carter Stadium, and other venues.
The move comes at a time when several leading brands in the live-sound and installed-sound sectors have consolidated. For instance, Clair Global, one of the largest sound-reinforcement providers in the world, has in recent years acquired competitors Eighth Day Sound, Brit Row, and, most recently, ATK Audio, long-time provider of the live sound for the Super Bowl Halftime Show production.
d&b audiotechnik is a German loudspeaker and amplifier manufacturer, founded in 1981, located in Backnang, north of Stuttgart.[2] d&b is an international company with subsidiaries in Europe, America and Asia. Their products are produced in Germany. d&b equipment is mainly used in the rental and installation markets.
d&b audiotechnik has released ArrayCalc 11.6. This latest version offers a significantly simplified interface function in conjunction with EASE 5, the industry's leading electro-acoustic simulation software, providing users with a more efficient workflow for modelling sound systems and room acoustics.
For users such as acoustic planners, consulting offices and sound engineers, the link between ArrayCalc 11.6 and EASE 5 simplifies the workflow significantly. The previous process, considered time-consuming and error-prone, will now give way to a smoother experience, reducing stress and increasing productivity. Complex and tedious projects are made easier to complete, and the latest features reduce the burden of manual tasks, allowing users to focus more on creativity and precision.
"Users can now export the XLD file format with an extended set of information. This is the first significant simplification and streamlining of the previous transition between ArrayCalc and EASE. Facilitating the transfer of relevant data from ArrayCalc 11.6 to EASE 5 reinforces our commitment to providing solutions that simplify the lives of acoustic planners and sound system designers."
-Florian Hahn, Product Manager Software at d&b audiotechnik
The latest release of ArrayCalc, version 11.6, introduces an advanced export feature specifically for d&b system designs. It now offers seamless export of the XLD format, consolidating relevant loudspeaker information into a single file. This XLD text file includes the loudspeaker GLL type (e.g. XSL LA.gll), exact positioning, orientation, delay, and level information for each element of the sound system, as configured in ArrayCalc. This enhancement streamlines the handover process with EASE 5, allowing users to import the comprehensive XLD file directly into the simulation environment. The new functionality is being supported onward from the R60 update of EASE 5, released in February 2024.
Additionally, for projects involving point source groups, each individual point source item within the group is also exported, ensuring accurate representation, and simplifying complex simulations. With this consolidated approach, ArrayCalc 11.6 significantly improves workflow efficiency for acoustic planners and engineers, enabling smoother collaboration and more accurate simulations.
"The latest advances in integrated workflows between EASE and ArrayCalc are an important element of our long-term strategy to strengthen and expand our software interoperability. This not only simplifies the experience for our diverse user base, but also adds value to our offering. We look forward to the next integration steps on our roadmap with d&b!"
-Stefan Feistel, Managing Director of AFMG
The DS20 Audio Network Bridge has been designed to provide a seamless and cost-effective connection between d&b systems and MILAN. Acting as an interface between d&b amplifiers and the MILAN audio transfer protocol, the DS20 boasts impressive technical features including 16 digital AES 3 output channels, 4 digital AES 3 input channels and an integrated, fully AVB capable 5 port network switch for unparalleled flexibility and redundancy.
The DS100M Signal Engine is the MILAN-enabled iteration of the DS100 with Dante. Leveraging the technological prowess of MILAN, the DS100M extends its functionality to provide an expanded range of features. These include more audio channels via MILAN, MADI, word clock inputs and more, making it an essential part of a complete MILAN system for both d&b Soundscape and matrix applications.
As well as providing maximum loudspeaker performance, it maintains lower internal temperatures at highest output, ensuring long and reliable operation. By incorporating MILAN networking technology, its robust design allows seamless configuration for redundant system setups for audio signal transport, complemented by fallback capabilities for all inputs and device communication.
