Hello beautiful people!
I hope everyone is having a calming, cleansing week, taking in the rain and rejuvenating for spring!
At our last meeting Grace and I discussed more indepthly the concerned that had been soldified at the meeting prior and focused our thoughts on the following:
At this current time we feel those involved have decided on three major goals of the project:
- building connections across Chicago's queer and trans* communities that are inclusive, supportive and affirming
- showcasing Chicago's amazing queer/trans* artists and activists
- connecting Chicago's communities to national artists and activists
Through the ongoing dialogues and activities that have occurred so far we feel that the general consensus is to take a step and focus our energies on the first goal in order to truly achieve the second two. We of course have our work cut out for us.
We believe that in focusing on these three goals, particularly the first, we can create an event/or events that are reoccurring, sustainable and creates inclusive space that does not already exist. This is what we truly want. There are many platforms for Chicago's queer/trans* artists and activists, but we believe this is what is missing and would make us stand apart.
In order to achieve this we decided on three working goals:
- building relationships across queer/trans* communities in Chicago. this means really going out of our comfort zones and getting to know what else happening in this city, who's there and who's doing it.
- collaborating with existing events/groups that have similar goals.
- receiving input from folks across Chicago's queer/trans* communities about how the three major goals of QCT can take shape in an event(s).
This is where we want to focus our energies and see what we can come up with in 2014. If you have ideas, interest or input please follow up with me or Grace, or fill out the poll that was sent on the listserv.
I want to thank everyone who has put their ideas and energies in so far, we have learned a lot in this exploratory process and hope to take that with us into the future embodiment of QCT!
Take Care,
Lex
