Queer Contra Dance Camp is just weeks away. Get ready for 2 1/2 days
of amazing talent, a whirlwind of dance, and Monte Toyon gorgeousness!
Below is important information to help you prepare and ensure your
safe and sound arrival at camp.

Dance Camp dates: Friday, April 8-Sunday, April 10, 2011

What To Bring:
*Bedding (a sleeping bag and pillow OR sheets, a warm blanket and
pillow) and a towel. Very important! The camp does not provide any of
this. If you're flying to us and requested bedding, we'll have it
ready for you at registration Friday night, thanks to a kind dancer --
but please remember to bring your own towel.
*Clean shoes to dance in. Outdoor shoes should not be worn on the
dance floor.
*(Optional, but why not?) Creative fashions for Saturday night's
"Enchantment Under the Sea" dance: Mermaids, pirates, Neptune, sea
creatures, yacht attire, surfers, hula . . . !
*Mugs and water bottles. We're trying not to have disposable cups for
water; we'll provide some mugs, but we want to make sure we have
enough.
*If possible, please bring picture-laden magazines for button-making.

Arrival at camp:
*Please plan to arrive at or after 6:00 pm on Friday, April 8. If you
are a work exchange participant helping with set up, you should arrive
by 4:30 pm. Send any work exchange questions to Ben:
setse...@yahoo.com.
*Campers will NOT be able to choose rooms UNTIL 6:00 PM, as we'll need
the afternoon to set up camp, including housing. Please do not claim a
room until 6:00 PM. And thanks for your help with this.
*We aren't providing dinner Friday night, but the snack table will be
set up outside the dance hall for nibbling. If you want a fulll meal,
plan on eating before arriving. There are restaurants in Santa Cruz
and Aptos.
*Here's a map of the Monte Toyon grounds: http://www.uccr.org/documents/MTFacilityMap.pdf
*Registration Friday night is in Helgesson Hall (the dance hall)
starting at 6:00 and going through 11:00. If you're arriving Saturday,
ask for Robert, and he'll be happy to help. Housing is in Cary Lodge
(co-ed, non-gendered), Morris Dorm (men), and Miller Dorm (women), and
(unless you've made arrangements for non-gendered housing) we are not
assigning rooms, so you can pick your own.

Other important information:
*Monte Toyon does not have cell phone reception, though if you hike up
a hill or walk down Cloister Lane towards downtown Aptos, you might
pick up something. There is a landline in the program office, with
extensions in the dining hall and Cary Lodge, which can be used in
dire circumstances. Out-going calls require a calling card. You can
give out our phone number if someone might need to reach you:
831.688.2457.
*Schedule: Our Welcome Dance starts Friday evening at 8:00 pm. Dancing
and workshops continue all day Saturday, with some afternoon breaks,
and our last dance ends Sunday at 3:00 pm. Pace yourself however you
like. Plan on leaving camp by 4:00 pm on Sunday.
*Pitching a tent is allowed at camp. FYI, recently, about a mile and a
half up from Monte Toyon, there have been mountain lion sightings,
though no injuries have occurred.

Transportation:
*Monte Toyon's address is 220 Cloister Lane in Aptos, California.
*Please make your transportation plans now, so if you have any
questions, there will be plenty of time to ask.
*Here is a link for driving directions to Monte Toyon:
http://www.uccr.org/documents/MTMapDirections.pdf
*If you're driving, and you'd like alternative directions, we suggest
using MapQuest: http://www.mapquest.com/
*If you're flying in to either the San Francisco or San Jose airport
and have not already arranged a ride to camp, you can take the Santa
Cruz Airport Flyer van service: http://www.santacruzairportflyer.com/
or 831.423.5937 Reservations are required. Their closest van stop to
Monte Toyon is the Best Western Seacliff Inn in Aptos. Once there,
call us (831.688.2457) and someone will come get you; Santa Cruz
Yellow Cab (831.423.1234) is another option.
*If you'd like a ride from someone driving to camp or need other
transportation advice, contact Robert: sfco...@hotmail.com.

You might want to print this message and keep it handy. If you have
any questions that haven't been answered, just ask:
sfco...@hotmail.com or 510.487.8235.

See you soon!
