Queen Street Yoga Newsletter

Hello And Happy Season's Greetings to you!   We look forward to helping you through the month to maintain peace in your body, mind and heart as we move into the new year.  It is our sincere wish that as we cultivate peace within ourselves, and our community, that this peace will flow out into the world.

If you want to reduce your stress and someone else's this Christmas, we have gift certificates available and a variety of yoga props, including new meditation cushions.  You can pick up your holiday gifts on your way out of yoga class! Also, we have ordered the heavy duty bolsters that we use in the studio.  We have only ordered 12 for now, to reserve yours, please email.  If we get requests for more than 12, we will order more.  They are hand made by a yoga teacher in Montreal, and they are $85 each.

3) Schedule and Fee Changes for January

2) Restorative Yoga with Brad
December's topic is Anxiety, working on soothing the nervous system.  Come and chill out post-Christmas with Brad on Dec. 28th. Please call or email to register as space is limited (there are about 5 spots left).  The cost is $25.

We will be continuing the Restorative classes in January, the last Sunday of the month.  Topics will be posted on the website soon.

3) The New Year Schedule
The New Year Schedule will be up on the website by Dec. 10th.  It is very close to the current schedule with a few teachers switching classes, and Anna-Marie returning!  Please have a look next week!

Also, there will be a fee change as of January 1st, the class prices will be raised by a $1 a class.  We have not had a fee raise in three years and the time has come. Please check the fee page online for the January fees.  Please also know, that you will never be turned away for lack of funds!  Please do not hesitate to call us if there is a time when Yoga is not fitting into your budget.  We do offer subsidies for those who need it! Also, if you know of someone who would like to start yoga but is low in funds, there is always the Community Yoga Class where the fee is by donation.

4) There are many fun workshops at QSY in the New Year.
All of them are being posted on the website this week!
Some dates to keep in mind are:
January 11, Detox with Twists with Anna-Marie
Febuary 1st, Backbend to Beat the Blues with Meaghan
Feb 10th-12th, 5:30-7:30pm, mini yoga intensive with Hart Lazer (the teacher of the QSY teachers!)

5) Yoga Party/QSY Celebration!
It is time to celebrate this wonderful community of yoga we have here with all of you!  We skipped our birthday in September, in favour of a big yoga day in January, when we all have a little more time! If you have been to our parties in the past, you will know that it will be an all day yoga event, with free classes, body work, prizes, and of course food.  But most importantly, it is a time for us to get to know you  and to get to know your fellow students!

Save the date: Jan 24th.  The event will be all day, you can come for however long you like!
If you have a business, or service that you would like to share at this event, in the form of a gift for the raffle, or to offer at the day, please let us know!

6) Post card from Anna-Marie
Below!  There is also a longer update and new photo in the lobby.

Warm wishes to you from all of us at QSY!
Nameste,
Meaghan

POSTCARD FROM ANNA-MARIE IN CAMBODIA
10 Things I like About Phnom Pehn
  1. Bean buns from Bayon Bakery.
  2. The people that live at this house – Dara, Thiera, Sandra, Carl.
  3. Moto rides.
  4. Peeling a really freaky looking fruit and finding out it tastes like heaven.
  5. Tofu amok at Amok Restaurant.
  6. The terrace outside my room at night.
  7. The smiles.
  8. Pink, orange and red are used like blue, black & beige in Canada.
  9. The family up the street who have a store and restaurant in their garage.
  10. The way a wedding takes 5 days and the reception tents look like parade floats.
  11. The distant sound of monks chanting in the morning at Wat Lanka (I know, I know: that's 11 things.)

10 Things I'm Not So Crazy About
  1. The ants currently trying to bite my ankles. Come to think about it, I'm not so crazy about the bugs in the kitchen or the mosquitoes anywhere.
  2. The weird social scene at the corner of 63rd & 302. (Mafia?)
  3. Litter.
  4. Homeless children in the middle of the road late at night, begging.
  5. The rich are very rich, there's poor and poorer, and nothing in between.
  6. The sink in my bathroom.
  7. Perpetual dirty feet.
  8. The owners of the dog next door. (It's not the dog's fault.)
  9. Teaching on the terrace when bats fly in.
  10. Men who spit or pee on sidewalks. (Its only men.) (Same same in Canada.)
