Queen Street Yoga Newsletter

Well, there is no denying it, we are deep into the winter. But the heat distribution has been fixed at the studio and we have added two large humidifiers, so we are staying warm and cozy in here!  Also, our hearts were also warmed by everyone who came to our Community Celebration on Jan 24th.   Your generosity was astounding. We raised $1159 for New Leaf Yoga Foundation! We are well on our way to setting up a program with at risk youth here in Kitchener.  Thanks so much for your big hearts!

Listed below are all the happenings for February.  If there is anyone in your life who you think would be interested in doing yoga with us, please pass this email along to them, we so appreciate it!  And they will too!  Please remember that there is the Community Class on Thursday nights at 7:30pm with Lindsay.  It is open to beginners and the cost is by donation. It is an easy place to give yoga a try, to bring a friend, or to add a second or third class to your week!

Also, we realize that these are tough times for some economically, and we want you to know that no one will be turned away for lack of funds at our studio.  If you find yourself wanting to attend class, but are short on cash at the moment, please email us and we will be able to work out a solution.

To help with our email process, we would appreciate you joining our Google Group. Also, you can connect with us and other QSY Yogis on Facebook:

To get warm enough to go deep into backbends takes time, so with this longer class we will be able to really open up!  This class is open to Level 1 students and up.  You need not have the blues to take this workshop!

Sunday February 1st 2-5pm $40 in advance, $45 at the door (subsidies available)

5) Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Workshop
Join Brad Seftel, Yoga teacher, and Nancy Leach Schaeffer, teacher of meditation and author of The Body Means Well: Empowered Healing, on this journey of discovery and healing. We are designing this workshop specifically for people who are struggling with body and weight loss issues; however, we know it will be of interest to anyone wanting to be more mindful and joyful in their journey toward body and mind health.  In this workshop we will spend time together practicing yoga asana sequences that stimulate specific systems in the body that are responsible for hormonal balance and overall strength. In addition we will spend time together exploring mindfulness in meditation to facilitate purposeful living and hold a conversation to help us discover what we have in common and what we can learn together about body health and body weight. This workshop is open to people of all levels

February 21st,  1:00–4:00pm  Cost:  $45

6) Partner Yoga with Anna-Marie and Kunga
Back by popular demand!  This two hour class of yoga poses designed for two people is sure to have you laughing, stretching to new places, and will leave you feeling connected, centred and relaxed.  This is not romantic yoga, in the past people have brought their sweethearts, a good friend, or a family member.  If you want to come and need a partner, we will find you one!  This class is open to students of all levels.  If you need a gift for Valentines, consider a gift certificate to this class!
Friday March 7th, 7:30-9:30pm, $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

7)  Intro to Meditation with Kunga: Tuesdays
There are only three spots left in this course, please contact us soon if you are interested in joining.  If you have questions as to what will be covered in this course, we can put you in touch with Kunga.

8) Yoga Teacher Training with Meaghan Johnson, Kristin Honey and Hart Lazer
Please contact us if you are interested in this program.  Even if you never plan to teach yoga, a teacher training program is a great way to develop your personal understanding of Yoga and to have ownership over your own practice.  Studying with Hart will also give you really strong teaching skills if this is a path you wish to take. If you have questions or concerns, please email us and set up a time with Meaghan to talk about. The early bird price has been decreased to help make this program more accessible and the date to get your deposit in has been pushed back to March 1st in order to give you chance to meet Hart at the intensive.  The program is starting to fill, so contact us soon!

9) Yoga for Hope Fundraising Event for Hopespring Cancer Support Centre
This yearly event is a great chance to get together with Yogis from all over K-W and do yoga for a whole day! (Or you can do just one or two classes).  This year there are three QSY teachers involved. Kunga, Meaghan and Brad will all be there.  The classes do fill so register early.  You can either pay for the day yourself, or get pledges and have the day for free. The date is February 28th, for more info, see the posters and registrations forms at the studio, or contact them directly: www.hopespring.ca or yogaf...@hotmail.com

10) Yoga Class and Potluck
On Saturday March 14 Meaghan will be offering a free yoga class at 4pm, followed by a potluck dinner at 5:30 pm.  If you love yoga, love eating, and want to get to know the people who are stretching beside you on their mats, please join us.  There is no cost for the class, but please bring something vegetarian to share for the meal.  We would prefer if you made it, but understand if you are busy and need to pick something up.  If you could list the ingredients of your dish on a little card, that would be really appreciated by those with allergies.  The class will be open to all levels, flowing and fun with some restorative at the end.   Hope to see you there!

Yours,
Meaghan and the QSY Teachers!
